So, with seven races to go and the title all to play for..

I'm a ferrari fan and i really feel that if Lewis is to win it Jenson has to man up and do whats best for the team and thats moving over for Lewis, he is out of the running for the title it would just be stupid if Mclaren didn't do it imo.

Look at the big picture.

Lewis not winning the WDC will make him want to leave "his team" even more because they refused to use team orders early enough.

McLaren then becomes "Jensons Team"

Simples !!

I can only think of 2 times when Massa has given Alonso points. Germany 2010 and last weekend. Every when else Alonso has just... been faster.

You sure Massa isn't just pretending to be slower all weekend to make Alonso look better, ultimate team orders... :p

Don't think Ferrari or McLaren have any real engine concerns, and the DNF's at Spa saving them doing that race probably helps them even more on the engine side, gearboxes are not really a major worry either.

I would have thought (on a very basic level, as I dont get engines/gearboxes in that sort of detail) that with forces involved & the sudden-ness of the event at a heavy acceleration point would have caused issues - as it would for JB's fuel pickup issue in the Italian GP (although perhaps JB's gearbox shouldnt be an issue as he slowly drifted to a stop)

Surely this kind of thing cant be healthy for either?

Mathmatically he isnt out of the running (and yes logic , and when has logic ever mattered in F1 lol, dictates that he is out of the race - but he also isnt the 1st to stick to this reasoning & he wont be the last)

Tough call,

Alonso or Hamilton.. As much as I'd like to see Kimi win. Alonso has had a balance of luck, and not the best car and is still winning, it's a lot better now though

Personally I want to see lotus finish 3rd, and I think it's actually red Bull who they have the best chance of beating assuming cars stay like they are now on relative performance

Mclaren for wcc assuming cars stay same

One win for Lewis with a DNF for Alonso and its all back on. But likewise one win for Alonso and a DNF for Lewis and its all over.

The only difference I feel is that the cars are much more reliable than back then. The cars are further from the limit as well making blow ups and driver errors far less likely.
True enough.

It's interesting comparing it to the old points systems. This system is easier to overhaul big leads than the last one, but not as easy as the old 10-6-4 setup. At least Kimi can be glad we're not using Bernie's Fabulous Medal System. :p

I thought this system had the same gaps as the last one, just 'scaled up' by 2.5x?

Although maybe not, as that would make 2nd worth 20 points?

Yeah, not quite. It's not an entirely accurate way of comparing them, but if Alonso was leading by 15 points in the last system, he could come second every race and definitely win the title, regardless. Under this setup, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Vettel and Webber could all theoretically catch him.

I was going to make a comment about how "I would go back and work out how many points they'd actually have now under the old systems, but I'm not that sad," but then I realised we'd all know that was a blatant lie.
