Anyone done the same as me and deleted all accounts?

I feel so much better for it but my finger still goes to the spot on my phone where the app was :)

Facebook - Deactivated years ago but I still keep the account for messenger so I can chat to friends.
Twitter - Deleted all 20,000 posts earlier this year. I've had a handful of emails from my over 3,000 followers asking why.
Reddit - Deleted all posts and killed the three subreddits I was admin of, then deleted my accounts.
Instagram/Tiktok etc - Never had.

I have a Bluesky account that I look at every couple of weeks.

You're still on here dude, I find this place more toxic than my other Social Media sites.

But you can choose which sub-forums and threads to read. Stay out of anything which may offend :)

Twitter is the only one I actively use to check for trending topics.

I use Feedly (RSS) to follow news and articles from sites I'm interested in.

This is my main one. Deleted twitter yonks ago as barely used it anyway. Have faceache for some family and mostly kept it around as my oculus was bound to the account a while back for some multiplayer stuff (my younger daughter could play minecraft with her cousin) - but could probably delete that all now as they changed it again.

My oldest is currently having to go cold turkey as her phone screen is knackered and everything she does is via that. She's traumatized ! Appointment to get it fixed is this afternoon apparently.

Deleted Instagram ,i just hated the you follow me i will follow you then drop you rubbish , never had the others

Only use bookface for trending news/groups etc

I don’t have anything else. Found it all a waste of time tbh.

You need to learn how to use it, my Facebook is all music

Facebook: Stopped using it a few years ago - have not deactivated the account.
Reddit - Stopped using it when they killed 3rd party apps
Twitter - Use about 1hr a month if that
TikTok - never had

Facebook: Haven't actively used in over a decade. I kept my account open for Tinder escapades but otherwise I haven't used it since I was 23.
Instagram: Use as part of my daily doom scroll. I only post once every few months on average but I enjoy it for following things I am interested in.
Twitter/X: I have an account but rarely use it. Used to use it for moaning at companies for faster customer support.
SnapChat: In a few groups with friends but more of a lurker than an outright snapper.
Reddit/Forums: I'll always have a soft spot for chatting to strangers online. Started with MSN Chatrooms and Habbo Hotel (lol) when I was 11-13 then I moved over to various forums and lastly reddit.
LinkedIn: I'll only use it when I'm looking for a job.

I don't like social media but I don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be. You make it what you want it to be. The danger is getting into echo chambers but for the most part if you just take it for what it is, it's pretty harmless in moderation.

I only use Instagram, partly for posting my photos to feed my ego :p

I feel Instagram is the least 'toxic' social media tool, apart from the relatively recent reels section, which I understand is pretty much like tiktok.

Obviously still here, and this site is in my daily reading tab, so when I go for a poo (like now) I'll browse OcUK.

Meta, Twitter, Google News - I deleted it all (including WhatsApp) in 2019. Never joined Snapchat or TikTok.

However, I now have a xitter.com account that is for reading only and DM contact with companies (this is because you get better support on there for some bizarre reason), no interaction with posts, no app, so the only data they can have is what I read - still more than I'd like, but that's the cost of entry.

It has its uses, but the down sides are not worth it to me.

Yep^

This is only an issue if you actively let it be an issue and interact with those sorts of people. I use IG a lot for my photography, and follow a couple thousand accounts if I recall but the ones that actively populate my feed are the ones that actually bring me laughs and positivity whether they're funny bird videos, cats, animals, baby elephants or just harmless lols from around the world - The rest are the usual proper accounts like NASA images, NatGeo, BBC Earth and the raft of legit influential speakers and figures from around the globe who post stuff up. With the remainder being a couple hundred personal contacts etc.

The mistake people make is that they use the platforms as presented by default, exposure to everything, then get overwhelmed by everything, then get frustrated by everything, then complain about it elsewhere, then delete it all out of said frustration. On all of these platforms you can and must tailor your view of what you see and how you use it. The vast majority of the population are not this way minded and fall into the trap though.

Edit*
LOOK AT THIS!

I think X/Twitter is the worst for a toxic environment because the account is in the public square.

Facebook is a closed social site, so I only play some card games.

Reddit I use for the long covid updates, it's good for specialist subjects.

I've had an account on Gab and Minds. But not been active there for years.

As regards insta well I went with the private account for a while but some of the people I really wanted to follow understandably I suppose had their minions running it so it just felt sterile
Edit I suppose I haven't ditched it yet as 3 weeks into the months notice needed

Facebook - friends and car groups.
Here - only forum, for me, left worth visiting - the car forums died long ago.
Insta - only car stuff.
Twitter - don't think I've ever posted. From what I've seen, it's a vile place to be.
Reddit - useful for info but I've never posted.

I've never found social media an issue to be honest. Perhaps a little too much on my phone but when some folk say they've moved away from social media because they find it too toxic, I almost don't get it. I guess it's probably because they've gravitated to that toxicity in the first place, whether deliberate or not.
