*Sorted* Socket 939 A64 Dual core - all gone?
Think I may have missed the boat on this - I'm currently running a 3700+ and it's my birthday coming up - I had planned on getting a 4400+ dual core but it seems as though supplies have ran out.
First question would be will any more of these appear on the market? I'm guessing no. If this is the case what would the difference in performance be if I got the 4600+ OCUK have in stock at the minute? My 3700+ is currently clocked at 2.6Ghz which is the maximum my mobo will allow (Asrock Dual SATA - cant get the FSB above 250 whatever I do).
I guess I could get the clock speed a bit higher because of the higher multiplier, but would I lose out as it only has 512Kb L2 cache per core? My use of the PC is 50/50 between gaming and video encoding, I realise the dual-core wont help for gaming at the moment.
I was looking for the members market, I think when I first registered here you needed 100 posts to get it, now that's 200 is that right? So short of making 150 pointless posts I wont be looking on there before my birthday (17th Nov)
I do plan on moving to Core 2 Duo at some point but it wont be for at least a year (just had our second child and the free time I get doesn't justify any significant investment at the moment).
Any thoughts welcomed. I have also considered getting a new mobo that could put some more volts through my 3700+ to get it up close to 3Ghz if possible, but I feel that dual core would help more with the video encoding side of things.
Cheers!
