Socket A/ 754 bargains

Read the earlier posts - prices are being adjusted. Also, some of these CPUs are still in high demand and regularly sell for big bucks. There are still people who have socket A rigs and can't afford to throw it all in the bin for an AM2 rig. :)

Nobody is forcing anybody to buy anything so if you are not interested, simply do not buy one. Do please refrain from criticising stock that has already been clearly described as clearance items that are no longer in production. OF COURSE a 2800 XP will not be as quick as a 3500 64.

Many of you are misinterpreting the nature of this thread. I simply stated that we have some older (some rare and discontinued) CPUs to clear. We thought this information may be of interest to people desperately looking for a replacement CPU due to NOT being able to upgrade to a whole new rig. We don;t guarantee overclocking levels, stepping codes etc etc. We'll help with as much info as we can where we can (see above).

u have to be a nutter to buy a Xp2800 for almost £100.

Maybe so but there are a lot of them about ;) I sold my year old xp3200 on an auction site in March for £95  Some people can't or don't know how to do a full upgrade or just cant be bothered to buy a new cpu and motherboard and do a full fresh install of xp. Look at the price of AGP cards, up to £270 for a 7800gs! and people buy them all the time when they could just get a new mobo and better pci card for less.

Argh, seriously tempted by that XP-2600M Barton.

Gah!

And I'm supposed to be upgrading in the near future as well.

EDIT: argh, went for it. Ah well, lets see how much I can clock out of the bugger.

How are you getting on with it then?

Clocked it yet?

Clocks a lot nicer than my t-bred 2600. Got it stable on 188FSB. Shame my motherboard doesn't fully support 14* multi, so its stuck on 2.33GHz as I have to use a 12.5 multi. Otherwise I would have it about 2.5GHz.

Got an ASUS A7N8X deluxe mobo.

Tried those settings with a 13 X multiplier? Should be OK if you slacken the RAM timings off a little. ;)

My 2500+ (not mobile) ran at 400 X 11 (2.2GHz) instead of 333 X 11 (1.8GHz).

It even showed up in windows and the BIOS as a 3200+ :p

might give that a try, actually.

I can set my mobo to 14* (apparently), but it runs it as 7* instead.

I'll get back to you, but I can't check as the computer is about a 45 minute journey away from me.

right, tried that, and no improvement. The motherboard runs it at a lower multi than what it says it is. Anyone got any idea about a hacked bios for the ASUS A7N8X deluxe that fully supports mobile athlon XPs?

I posted on this matter in another thread a while back.
Socket A cpu's are a rare find plus there's still plenty of users who are stuck with lower speed versions, are on a budget and do not wish to upgrade their entire kit. Hence why Socket A cpus fetch high prices.

I sold my 2800+ Barton for £95 a year ago, it cost me £50. (It managed 2.25ghz with a locked multi of 12.5)
I sold my 2500 XP Mobile chip for £120 in march this year, it cost me £55 used. Bought from Concorde Rules who is a member in here. (I managed to get the chip to 2.6ghz stable with a poor PSU)

Im confident OCUK know what they are doing :)
