Sofa shop recommendations

In past experience I've found most of the sofa places to be absolutely rubbish. Only places we found sofas that were comfortable and we'd be willing to buy were John Lewis and Next.

We took a risk and ordered online from Www.sofasofa.com and I'm really impressed.

We've had our sofa about a year and no problems so far. The delivery guys were great and the customer service was great when we need to speak to them for order progress.

The only issue is... Looking at their range, 2 seaters seem to be 160cm and 3 seaters 195cm.

We got our from sofology after looking around everywhere.

be wary of made, we found some we really like drove over to Birmingham to see them and the quality wasn’t great and felt/looked very cheap. Although in there showroom they had a section for an actual sofa company (like you’d find a nespresso in John Lewis) that made really good ones. Can’t remember the exact brand.

Yup.

We bought a couple from Next about 12 years ago. Great balance between price, style, quality. Still got them both.

Bought another from John Lewis about 3 years ago. They're a bit more expensive than Next, but great quality.

Couldn't find anything we liked at all from the big sofa sheds (scs, dfs etc). All just terrible styling.

The John Lewis one we actually got on EBay. It was brand new, still wrapped. I suspect JL passes off order cancellations to third parties, who stick them on EBay. Got a £1500 sofa for about £850 iirc.

I agree that the quality of our Made sofa is not a patch on the JL one that we have, however the designs on offer and the relatively cheap price more than make up for it. I would never have bought a bright yellow armchair in a million years if I’d been paying JL prices! The quality is perfectly good enough and has taken plenty of wear from enthusiastic toddlers and adults alike! They remain comfortable and haven’t broken yet after 4 years. The dreadful designs of the usual suspect retailers and their less than competitive pricing put me right off.

Trouble with any of the online only places is they're fine for decor and solid furniture, but not anything you sit or sleep on. We've ordered from Made before and had to send back instantly which costs with pretty much every retailer.

Then you've got the bloody waiting times. We've just bought two armchairs from IKEA because the only other one that we found that we liked (John Lewis) had a 24 week turnaround! Crazy.

So yeah, I'd want to sit. I'd go John Lewis, DFS, Next, IKEA in that order. You can pick up some ok armchairs etc (not sofas) from Dunelm and places like that. Loaf are stupidly overpriced.

We bought ours from sofology. All been good so far. They do pick up a few bad reviews on trustpilot etc, but these are normally from people who've bought recliners and they've eventually broke.

I would go with a nice solid build that has little to go wrong with.

After hearing about the Sofology debacle from watchdog I wouldn't touch them myself, that and they are now owned by DFS so the already poor quality will take another dive.

You're never going to get a company who manages 100% customer success, it's just not possible. Things inevitably go wrong, and sometimes take time to resolve.

We bought a dining room table from Furniture Village - who have a great rating on trustpilot. Yet we had no end of problems with them.

When their delivery guys turned up to deliver/build it, one of them when lifting a heavy metal chair over the table didn't lift it high enough and took a big gouge out of the surface of the table. Didn't even acknowledge that he did it, i had to go over and point out the damage. Then came the insulting offers of discount, £25, £50 and £75 on a £1k table. After stating that the discount was nowhere near high enough for the amount of damage (we're not talking bottom part of a table leg that would likely never be noticed), they eventually agreed to replace it. I think the ordeal lasted about 3 months.

When i compare the two, our experience with Sofology was plain sailing compared to Furniture Village.

Same experience here. In total my Furniture village order took 6 months. at one point we had 1 bench, 2 wrong chairs and a wrong size cushion for the bench. Then the table arrived with 2 correct chairs and 2 damaged chairs. It was a joke.

Sofology on the other hand was smooth as anything. I personally would never go back to furniture village but there's thousands of people who have had flawless orders with them.

Just bumping this as I'm currently on the hunt for a new sofa. I've read some reviews of ones we like on John Lewis and they seem to say the build quality is bad. Has something changed? My current one is from Harveys and I've had it nearly 6 years but it needs replacing.

We were going to go with a sofa from John Lewis but the wait time was something like 12 weeks and we needed something instantly (moved into our first house with 0 furniture) so we ruled it out. Was probably the nicest sofas we out of all the big brands (we didn't like anything in the usual sofa shops) we checked. Ultimately due to being able to pick one up that was comfy enough and the same day we ended up getting one from IKEA and we're both pretty happy with it considering it was only £750 it was much more comfortable than some of the expensive ones we get.

We made the silly decision of going to Loaf one day... Comfort wise they blew everything else out of the water by a long, long way. Simply leagues ahead. But so are their prices! We're going to wait until the dog gets a bit older but for something we rest our bums on every day we can justify the cost.

my last sofa was from Sofa.com. no show rooms nearby, so requested samples and measured up, wife went and had a look when passing one day, turned up on time, quality has been good and an issue with the legs on delivery (some minor chips) was resolved quickly and easily.

tl;dr?

Meh, got ours from Sofology, worked out a payment plan, Sofa seems fine and had it a couple of years now.
