Sofas...are dfs any good?

I have a DFS sofa (4 seater and a snuggler), and after 2 years on kids jumping around all over it, it's fine so far, it wasn't the cheapest in the shop and is so comfortable.

I have a sofa from DFS. It is actually very good build and quality. It is a leather corner sofa and we paid (are paying) not too shy of 2k for it, a "poufet" and an electric single seater recliner.

Don't know why all the hate for DFS at the start of the thread. Guess its the usual OcUK "nuuurrrrr, can't go with high street well known branded stuff, I bought mine from Harrods for £10k, nuuuur" type of comment.

Out of all the general furniture superstores I went to, they were the best and had most selection. Some of their sofa's ARE pap, but the price usually reflects that. Bare in mind it's not a decision you can make lightly. That thing has to be catering your ass-grove for at least 5 years or more!

Mine has even stood the test of time in its first year with 2 kittens running around it all day. Sure it has some holes and scratches but still looks pristine after a once over with some leather treatment.

Make sure you shop around and get a sofa that is comfortable for you and suits your needs!

The problem with dfs sofas is that the cushions are crap and don't last, that's after having 2 dfs sofas. Either you got lucky Tom, or we have had 2 bad examples. we had a big corner sofa like that and the cushions were crap after a year :(

did you flip and "plump" the cushions every other day? If not that's potentially why, or they weren't the same type. He said that with this type, they will go flat if you dont do this, but if you do they'll return to full comfort every time and he was right, ive left it 2 weeks before and then done it, and wow the difference is huge, especially if you look at it after doing 1 before doing the 2nd, its like twice as thick! It's like a good feather pillow though, crap unless you plump it but bloody awesome once they have been :)

I have 2 leather sofas from DFS and they've been fine. Quality is good, leather is of a good standard and quality. I'd buy from them again.

I have had them over a year now, http://www.dfs.co.uk/sofas/leather-sofas/leon/ and they are one of the most comfiest sofa's I have ever sat on.

Why not go have a look at some, look at a few other places recommended above and go from there? I also financed mine, with no hassle.

We bought our sofa from DFS too, and like RG, that was after looking in numerous stores. I think the thing with stores like DFS, they make the sofa to match a budget, spend £500 on a sofa and it'll be made cheaply to attract those on a budget, but up your budget and you will get a better built sofa. Ours was £1500 for a corner group about a year ago now, the leather is really nice and soft, the cushions are still nice and plump - and like RG says, you need to plump them every other day. You also need to feed the leather every so often to stop it drying out.

Another happy DFS customer, ive had my sofa 5 years and not had a problem with it, wasnt cheap either but its held together absolutely fine, no wear and tear.

I felt the product was worth what I paid for it, Im not a desperate person at all, I looked at quite a few shops and picked the stuff I liked the best which happened to be DFS, my previous Reid sofa fell apart in a couple of years.

We've just taken delivery of a sofa and armchair from DFS.
So far so good, looks nice and is of so comfy.
It's a pillow back, so we know we need to spend 5 minutes in an evening "plumping" the pillows up - but we knew this when we bought it.

I quite liked the way we were not hounded once we were in the store.
We were acknolwedged and then allowed to just browse at our leasure.
When we were down to a choice of two we got somebody over to go through them both with us - the guy then left us alone to make our decision.

We then went back to him when we were ready to place the order.
No real attempt to push the credit insurance of "stain guard" options.
Although by the time he'd decreased the Stain Removal option to an extra £1 per month over the 4yrs of IFC we decided to go ahead.

Good experience so far.

Change of band wagon:
Ikea sofa's. Cheap (although finding ikea to be more expensive these days on things that arent bright coloured plastic), will last till you can afford more expensive ones, they seem to be mostly modular. best of all for some-one like me, plain colours!
To my knowledge havnt sat on one so can't say about comfort.

DFS wont tell you this, ut they have two ranges. The core range and the "sale" range.

We actually bought from there, despite my concerns, as the sofa was the nicest we'd found by far.

Ours came from the "core" range, this range are never in sales, are always current, and in stock, and are built to a much better quality. The "sale" range are cheap, heavily discounted, and pretty crappy.

Yeah they were done every other day. The 2 differed sofas had different types of cushions, one being the more sponge like and the other being something else that had not much sponginess. Both went the same way though.
Admittedly we bought the 2nd dfs one around 4/5 years ago now (gave it away about 2 years ago) so quality may be better from them more recently.

We always buy our sofa's from DFS, they represent great value for money.

Our corner sofa (1.4k) is used daily and the kids play and jump all over it and it is virtually unmarked after 6 years of ownership.

On the other hand we also have a 3 seater and 2 seater in another room that we got from Barker and Stonehouse, we paid 2.6k for them and the kids only have to stand near them and they mark up....luckily enough this room doesnt get used very often.

I would say its more about the quality of the leather rather than where you buy it from.

We bought our first suite from DFS, going back 5-6 years ago now.

A three seater and a two. We looked everywere, inc John Lewis and the some of the bespoke furniture shops. The DFS one wasn't discounted at all, I think it cost me just under 3K. There was no payment for the first year, after which we settled up.

The sofas are good quality leather (so said the guy that came to clean them recently) and are substantial in build. The three seater needs 3+ people to move it. You can fit 5 people on the thing.

Even after all this time they look brand new and haven't lost any of their shape. Very comfortable.

DFS is like anywhere else, they have rubbish products and they have good products. Unless they have changed since we got ours, to say it's all 'cheap tat' is a bit silly.

You sir are a rarity. I don't think many people pay full price given the amount of time each year they are in a sale!!

The sales are a load if rubbish. You think you are getting the sofa half price? No you are paying what its worth. They have sales all the time.

What you don't seem to realise is that not all sofas get discounted. Mine didn't. Don't think I bought it as soon as I laid eyes on it. It wasn't discounted right up until it went out of production.

I never said you aren't paying what you think they are worth, i said not paying full price. And they dont have sales all the time, they aren't allowed to iirc.

I thought the adverts stated 'sale on all items' or something?

Harrods is a good place to buy furniture - clearly they have stuff at astonomical prices, but the also sell "normal" priced sofas too - recommend them they will definitely not be beaten on service.
