Can someone help. My pal (who is more computer illiterate than me) has been given a HP / Compaq H3850 PDA. I would assume that the previous owner has wiped it clean and maybe even formatted away any OS it had. It is recognised by PC but in the hand has no OS on it at all.
What is required to get this up and running ie. PDA OS, PC Outlook type application, Syncing software etc.
Please help with even the most basic of info.

Most PDAs to my knowledge will have the OS on a ROM chip and therefore can't be deleted, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

You'll need Active Sync (download from MS) and MS Pocket PC 2002/3 has an inbuilt email app to sync with outlook.

Excuse my ignorance is MS Pocket PC 2002/3 installed on PDA or PC.

It's the PDA OS.

Here's a pic of my Dell Axim X3i running Pocket PC 2003

The only time I've seen a PDA without an OS was due to a bodged ROM upgrade.

I'd love to hear what this device does when it's powered up and turned on.

He says that all he gets is a white screen with red band across the top with text "align screen" and it goes no further.

Can you also tell me how do you do a "hard reset".

What happens when he tries to align the screen?

Also, to do a hard reset, press the power button and hold it, then tap the reset button with the pointy stick. Then release the power button.
