On my Dads laptop running Windows XP, he uses Autodata and it stopped working. There is no un-installer and nothing in remove programs control panel so I just deleted it and removed any related entries from the registry. No when I go to re-install it I get a pop up error saying integer not valid then another comes up every second and they start filling the screen.

What have I done? I tried a system restore but it failed as 'No changes had been made'.

Any suggestions? Really need to fix this and would rather not have to re-install windows.

Thanks

I'd use something like Process Monitor to monitor the setup file (tip: setup a filter on the name of the exe otherwise you're going to get hundreds of entries from other processes) and see what registry keys/files it's trying to access when it starts erroring.

First step

Create a new user account and try installing it in there, failing that, contact the makers

I tried another user account, same thing happens.

I tried using Process Monitor but nothing comes up when I use the filter.

Here is a screen shot

I select language then it starts happening straight away. No point calling them as this install works fine just this laptop after I deleted the old install.

Has the language settings in windows been changed recently? It might be something like daft it will only function under the US setting specifically.

If its not an msi or installshield installer there is little else we can do really without the vendor helping. :(

I ended up formatting the laptop and doing a full re-install.

Now I can install Autodata but as soon as I try to open it I get an error message saying unable to open and the useless error reporting window. I even tried to install the older version of Autodata and I get the same thing.

It says

Error Signature

AppName: adbcd.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781 Offset: 00012afb

Under technical info there is loads of stuff like this.
Code 0x0eedfade Flags 0x00000001
Record 0x0000000000000000 Address 0x000000007c812afb

Any ideas why it won't open?

Thanks

Have you updated the laptop to the latest service packs/updates?

edit: just incase make sure you install the .NET stuff too incase it uses that.
