Solar panel production figures

9.9kw today - better than a kick in the teeth!

Quick question for the solar experts - had this back from our installers today as I explained about how everyone is needing to beat Ron-ski... :D :

regarding your solar unfortunately the DNO have advised you wouldn’t be able to put any more solar in because of the supply cable to your property. This is the main reason of the limit on exportation that has been set on the inverter.

Does this make any sense? We've got an export limit set on our inverter already, so I don't follow why this would limit any further panels? (obviously the last thing I'd be wanting to do is export anything given appalling rates!)

But your not using that cable to supply solar, unless your exporting to the grid. Anything coming from the solar would be new and different cables.

I heard there are inverters that cap to a value set but sounds like they may need approval by the DNO. Another thing to bear in mind is for example a street where everyone had export potential it could cause them issues. Shame the industry isn't keen on upgrading the infrastructure to accommodate.

Yes exactly - that's the bit I don't quite grasp.

We've got an inverter that's already set to limit export to X kw, so I could add 100 new panels and nothing would change that and as you say, all the internal cables are nothing to do with the grid?

I get if I was asking to increase the export limit, but I'm not sure what relation panels have?!

Blame Ronski they're all in his pockets!

If your not changing the inverter, why did you need to ask the DNO anyway???

When my system was fitted as the inverter was than 3.7kwh, i diidnt even need to ask them for permission to fit it or export, but i could still have fitted 100 panels if id wanted…..

(shouldn't this be in the other thread ;))
DNO not being flexible, how strange! I imagine its too easy for people to turn the inverter limit off and break things.

From a is it worth adding more panels if you have a limit doesn't it depends on how that inverter limit works, if the extra solar power can charge the batteries (although there will be a limit on the rate they charge at) it could be useful to add more panels, it'll also improve your generation on less than clear days, but you'll be topping out your generation, and the power available to the house, at the inverter limit

Oh good shout - sorry, thought this was the other thread! My bad - sorry for diverting the thread folks, I'll stop! :D
