Solar panel production figures

@Welshman the thing is a 5kWh battery doesn't give you 5kWh of power, in Oldmans case it shut down at 20% (that can be altered), that means he actually used circa 4kWh, also 4kWh in doesn't equal 4kWh out due to efficiency losses. Perhaps they cook on electric, and that really hammers the battery, once he adds another battery it may well see them through to the next morning.

By the way, if my battery is fully charged late afternoon, I still have battery left the following morning and we have an electric oven, I enjoy using my powerful computer with dual monitors of an evening or a couple of hours in my cinema room, while the wife and daughter watch TV, we have lights on in the rooms we are in if we need them on, I have a server running 24/7 for various reasons, lots of network equipment, two fridge freezers (no bodies ;)) because we're a family and need them.

People live their lives differently, we don't all want to live like electric hermits just to be able to boast about low electric usage, if that suits your life style then that is fine, but it doesn't suit the majority.
I'm not boasting ron, just making idle chit chatter.....yes i dont use much energy, but certainly not an energy hermit. I work form home with a full home office running laptop, 2 additional screens, Tv and sky Q. Downstairs my wife is watching sky Q on a 60" LCD TV, but they are all new low power users. We have a large american fridge freezer running 24/7 along with broadband router etc etc. They just dont use as much energy as people think. We dont use computers as we have no need, as we both use Ipads for our IT needs, using low powered USB charging. I do all my online banking via my mobile phone/ipad etc etc....

Yes its not for everyone, but in life we all make choices that suit our needs or we dont make any choices at all and just carry on regardless. I supplement my power use the same as everyone in this thread with solar power, which keeps my grid usage pretty damn low. But if you want to talk boasting, go take a look at the energy saving thread, where people are boasting of pulling 10,20,30kwh of energy from the grid within a few hours just to make a few pounds.

I didnt come here to argue with people, i came to learn, pass on knowledge, gain knowledge and maybe pass on what i do to save power. In the same way as you are with your new solar system, which i admire, because i cant do those things, but i dont say your boasting about what you can do, just because i cant. Me finding something funny, isnt a criticism of other peoples power usage, as we all live different lives.

Sorry if you feel i'm boasting.

Majority of my evening usage is on cooking with the oven or hob on for an hour or two depending upon whats being cooked, albeit at lower temps. Fully charged batteries will easily get me through the night though, have been using them to top the car up the last few days too now there is enough charge in them. 12kwh yesterday despite it being dull and grey. Definitely brighter this morning.

its minging here, only currently pulling 125watts through the panels.... but thats covering around 40% of my current load.

Perhaps I took it the wrong way, it just seemed to be poking fun at someone who's trying to use what they generate and he's doing it very cost effectively I might add, roughly £2k, another 5kW battery would be about £1300.

It is impressive how little you use though, my base load is bumped up by my server, and theres a tropical fish tank. I'll have to measure what that uses at some point out of curiosity.

i honestly wasn't poking fun.....and i apologise if that's how it read.

We had fish tanks in our family as kids, the heating element, filters etc etc probably does use quite a bit.

ps....i also grow my own fruit and veg, but shhhh dont tell everyone lol

Over winter I've shifted a lot of my usage to overnight. So having enough battery to last beyond midnight would be a waste of money. As soon as the EV starts charging, I can kiss those stored electrons goodbye. I've found 8kwh (of which I'm probably using about 6) is just about right.

Once the sun's strong enough to fill the batteries, I'll start shifting some of the EV charging to during the day.

Its another very dull day. Solcast is optimistically predicting 4.9 kWh. I suspect I'm on course for another day below 3.
On the upside I'm now recording Lux from one of my outdoor hue sensors, so I can see how brightness and production are linked.

The sun's come out and currently at 48% battery which is currently being charged at 1.5kW
I just had to fumble around in my inverter settings to kick start my charging, I thought once it saw pv available it would auto start charging but no, I was generating 500+watts (steady ;) ) but no charging. I found battery wakeup in settings and clicked it expecting some sub menu but it just answered "done" and the charging started. Hope I don't have to do that more than once. 770w for 27% now.

Mine will start charging the batteries as soon as it sees a single mw spare. Only settings I change are the forced charge hours overnight.

Not sure if this is related to the different battery, and the profile you've set for it. I've never had to manually wake the Pylons.

I'm currently charging at 2.1kw. Glad I switched from Met Office to BBC weather yesterday - as they have vastly different outlooks. Would have been gutted if I'd force charged it.

It's been a bad day all around. 3.9 kWh for production. Installers have done a bodge job fixing my cracked tiles, and the liability insurance documents they provided for my insurers are out of date. On the plus side at least Octopus now have the export MPAN from my DNO.

16 kWh today, Solcast was miles out predicting around 8 today, so I charged the battery up full overnight when I would have done a bit less if I'd known. Wound up exporting 5 kWh but wasn't much I could do about it.

Ah well, good for someone on the grid I suppose!
