Solid State HDDs at OCUK

I suppose standby mode beats everything else anyway, making i-ram kind of redundant for most things. You might as well buy more ram anyway, eliminating the pagefile, you can use ram as a hdd as well within windows.

^^ there are some benchies of this floating around and it is awesome - but... you need a LOT of ram (8Gig min and the 2gig sticks are a lot of money) - plus at least with the I-Ram you get the battery backup - shut down and you lose the Virtual Drive and have to re-mount on startup - sloooooooww.

Funny - takes me back to the AT / XT days when I remember we used to set up virtual drives on our 640kb machines... sigh... those were the days

/disappears into a 'don't know they're born' reverie...

(Plus I've never had much joy with stby / hibernate under XP - always seems healthier to give it a good reboot from time to time.)

Running XP on a Virtual Drive would be an impressive feat ;) (and no you don't get points for using vmware or the like!)

Other than that you could get away with 4Gig for a game or 2 but unless you're going to run the swap file on the Virtual drive as well it's a non-starter, so even with 4 you'd struggle - 8gb min I say and damn the expense! :D
