[SOLVED] EVGA 1080 ti SC2 - Running over 80C with no OC

Glad to hear you got things sorted.

Bit of a shame but it seems like new standard practice is to replace the paste straight out the box.

It’s maybe more likely to happen if the cooler goes on first, backplate second and a there’s a change in temperature on the manufacturing line. Who knows

Answered my own Q, optimal power instead of prefer maximum in nvidia control panel
Ive very recently done this as well and left it like that when i game. The clocks still reach the same level as before and performance is the same if i leave it on adaptive rather than max power. The advantage of course is my GPU clocks right down to like 400mhz when its not being used for gaming creating less heat and using less power.

In light of this im not sure why Max performance even exists...

Some people experience stuttering when sudden changes in load mean the GPU clock is too low during a stressful period.

But if its a stressful period then the clock would raise up right? Maybe i dont notice due to having a 1080ti... Do you think its more relevant for a lower clocked card such as a 1060 or something?

It's just something that happens occasionally - user gets stuttering issues, adjusts power settings to stop clock speed dropping too low, stuttering stops. From what I understand it's because the clock speed doesn't adjust quick enough. Might also happen with games that don't fully load up the card.
