My wife bought Angel (all 5 seasons) on dvd of ebay.
Now they turned up this morning and there pirate copys  .
Now they work although there is some blocking and some are abit grainy .
Is there anything that can be done? Here is a link to the ebay item ...is it worth doing a cash back via paypal or informing ebay ? Link here

Didnt the 2 negative feedbacks she got in the last month not put you off?

Plus i couldnt see anywhere where she says they are original discs anyway

I'd contact the seller first of all, explain that your not happy as it was not shown in the auction that you were paying for illegal copies.

If the seller does not respond positively, then speak to Paypal and eBay to recoup your money and let them decide what action to take against the seller.

If the seller returns your cash (I dont see much point in them asking for the discs back as they're worthless) then still report it to ebay as the sellers feedback appears to be private so you can't see the comments left by other buyers (unless thats just me? ).

People like this really do my nut in. If they were charging a few quid then fine, but £40 for copies (when it doesn't state they're copies) is disgusting :(

Did you not email the seller to ask and see if they were original discs?
You could always ask for your money back and report it to Ebay although I doubt they will do much.

If they really are crap, just send them back, open a dispute in Paypal, let them sort it out.

Depends; the feedback looks good on them so email them, then do the paypal thing - you should get your money back np

Well my wife is not as savey as far as pirate software is concerned and she never told me she was bidding on them so i never looked at the listing. The Listing is abit vague not saying copies or originals .
Would it be best to contact the seller first or just go straight to paypal ?

As I said depends on the person, do they have lots of good feedback? If so I would email them and allow 24 hours then on to paypal.

Well I think you should give them the benefit or the doubt really.

I'm not sure if you should take the stance of "Give me my money back or else!!!!1". But if you point out that the listing didn't say they were pirate copies, and you're not happy they'll probably refund the money. Afterall, he/she's not lost out on anything, as what you've been sent isn't worth anything.

I'd still go about reporting them to eBay though, regardless of what they reply with. At very least the seller should be stating that they're not legitimate copies, but if they did that eBay would probably pull the auction :p

Tell Paypal and get the money refunded.

There is a lot of pirate software etc on ebay at the moment but after searching the help files there seems to be no easy way of reporting it?

Anybody with private feedback is very dodgy, also "too good to be true"

The seller wont really be worried, they wont refund you, they will just set up another acount.

Or Trading Standards.

If this person is conducting a business, then selling (or even offering for sale) pirate CDs/DVDs is a criminal offence for which they can be fined, or go to prison, or both. And if they are selling lots of stuff, then it's very likely to be classified as part of a business.

That might get their attention. :)

I totally agree ebay is all trendy but most software on there appears dodgy yet the traders dont ever seem to get done

By the way even charging a few quid is illegal unless they have the copywrite owners permission and if you have the goods and know there illegal, technically you may have cooperated. Also selling copywrite material for reward of any sort is a criminal offence, ie far worse than copying it for personal use which is civil, its about time ebay was sorted out. :(

Quite, my point was merely on principal. I wasn't trying to give the impression that selling dodgy copies on eBay (or anwhere for that matter) was ok.

On reflection selling for lower amounts (<£5) could be worse I suppose as most people
a) Would be expecting dodgy copies and wouldn't want a refund
b) Follow up with complaints etc as they've only spend a few quid.

ergo scammer makes more money through more sales.

if you notify paypal its unlikely to be resolved in your favour. i had a similar problem a few weeks back, (pirate copies) as soon as i mentioned i had recieved them paypal said the dispute was between me and the seller, and they could only act if the goods were faulty or if i had not recieved anything. wish i had just said item not received, but the whole system with pirate copies seems unfair.
