Some games not starting in Steam

Is this the thing where some steam games don't launch properly and run in the background (can see them in task manager)?

As far as I can tell its something to do with win10, steam and temporary files. I.e. Clearing out temp files in windows causes this, you can fix it by starting a different games in steam then closing them in task manager... Eventually one will work and then they all will.

It could also be nvidia/gpu related only happens with full screen games. I just don't bother clearing windows temp files anymore was a pointless ocd exercise anyway.
 
i got that issue on my RX480. the game would crash, but stay running until i killed it in task manager.
The issue OP is having sounds like it's more a license issue as it has mentioned invalid CD keys before.
