Some Mac Pro Questions

You can put ANY graphics card in the Mac Pro, and it'll work under Windows.

However, you must keep a Mac-compatible card to use with OS X :o

So if he takes his Mac-compatible card out, he'll only be able to use windows? Seems a little silly getting a Mac at all in that case...

I didn't say he needed to take it out...

The Mac Pro can support up to 4 gfx cards, or 2 "Wide" graphics cards.

My point was he could keep a crappy OS X card in slot 1, and have a dedicated gamer-spec card in slot 2 to get maximum performance in Windows.

Although, as AmTechFox said.. the 8800GT card is no slouch, so it's perfectly possible to "make do" if he wants to run games without buying additional hardware. I've done it myself.. very nice performance in COD4 at 1900x1200

Take a chill pill..

Is it at all possible to flash any GPU to a Mac BIOS? Provided the BIOS exists in the first place, somehow.

I've got a Mac Pro with the crummy 2600XT, so just interested.

Yes. The forums at MacRumors have extracted the Mac BIOS files for most compatible PC cards

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as rude. I didn't know you could stick more than 1 GFX card in a Mac Pro, I've never had the opportunity to take one apart... I guess it does make more sense to put something like a 4870/2 or something in there if the PSU is up to the job.

I'd be tempted to just use the Mac Pro for serious stuff in OSX, and get an Xbox or Wii for gaming... but then I'm more of a casual gamer these days.
