Someone keeps taking our wheelie bin

Out the back of our house we have a gated alleyway. Every now and again, someone takes our bin which is clearly labelled with our address and we don't see it for a week.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can find out who is taking it?

The only ideas I can come up with is tieing some thread to the bin and then follow it (if it says intact) or painting the wheels with something that will leave a trace on the ground.

If I find out who it is then we can come up with some idea on how to inflict sweet revenge!
 
Someone kept taking my bin when I first moved in to this house, so I bought a fake CCTV sign stuck it on the side of my house for a week and it's not happened since.

Sorry, should have said.. They only take it once the bins have been emptied and they then take it before I get chance to bring it back to my garden. Setting up a webcam would leave it exposted to the elements, plus some thieving scrote (ie, my neighbours) will probably see it and steal it :p
