I am off camping in Snowdonia this weekend and I need a tent tonight!

Blacks has a store on my walk home. Actually a lot of shops in Reading that sell tents. All within walking distance of me.

Anyway, I need to buy one, like tonight. I bought one from Argos last night but after reading reviews, it's just NOT waterproof in any sense. People waking up to puddles and rain just flowing through the tent.

It's going to tip it down this weekend and I think it's safe to say, I need to spend a little money and get something waterproof and with a porch so I can cook as well.

Please, someone find something reasonable (and well priced) for me, It's only me, I'm 6'2" and I would like to keep my bag and food inside in the dry. So 2 man would be ideal.

Thanks!

When the OP is buying his tent from Argos I don't think this is a good idea. He will die.

Hahaha, thankfully I'm not bad at setting up tents and have a basic knowledge :P

Afterall, I was hovering over the buy button for the Tarptent Double Rainbow the other day. But for cheap purchase and urgency, I think a more 'qualified' input might be worth it.

As I really don't want to spend the weekend in a puddle :(

There was one I got from Go outdoors in May, was £80 and lasted through a lot of rain at Download this year. Had 2 bedrooms compartments and also a living space in the middle, was tall enough for me to stand in the living bit (5' 8"), cant seem to see it on the site anymore though. :(

Found it! This one, been discounted quite a bit but yeah! It served me really well for 5 days

I'm not venturing out of Reading, I have so much to do tonight I might go a little insane, I have to fit the catalyst to my car for it's MOT, pack my bag for camping, buy food for camping, find all my old stoves and camping kit, return my Argos tent, buy a new tent. All from 1630 onwards. It's going to be a hectic evening so no :( No trip to Basingstoke.

The places I can get to off the top of my head:

Decathalon
Cotswold
Blacks
Argos
Millets

All of those are easily within walking distance of my frantic hellish evening ahead of me.

Thanks

I have a Eurohike Ryde:

I can vouch for it's waterproofness and stability in wind. You can get better if you spend more but for the price I think it's a great little tent.

Here's the tent up, water beads off nicely:

Edit: The one firemansam posted above does look pretty good if you're looking to spend that much.

Something like that will be fine.

One thing to think about, how are you getting to where you're going to pitch the tent? Are you camping near a car, or are you going to have to carry it any distance?

At 4.3kg you could certainly carry it, but if you were walking any great distance then it might be worth considering something lighter.

I'd be tempted to have a look and see what you can get at Cotswold.

cant check those stores online at the minute, but have a look for the Gelert tornado 3 (preferably season 2011/12) ideal for your needs, should be able to grab it reasonable cheap too. failing being able to get the 3 look for the more tornado 4, probably slightly over kil for your needs though.

if there's likely to be rain make sure and get one that pitches 'outer first'

thanks guys,

Might I add, I'm not even setting it up haha, I don't have time to go during the day tomorrow so my best mates are setting my tent up for me (not sure if I should expect it pinned vertically to a tree or something...) and I will arrive around midnight and just dive in.

It's a camp site so next to the car, weight does not matter. It will be used this weekend then put into the loft. Or probably returned for a full refund as I'm a tight git and I really want the Tarptent Double Rainbow...
