I have just ordered these for a little something different to go with the usual boring beer/cider etc - anyone had these and what do you think? cheers.

1 KNOCKEEN POTEEN - Gold Strength (70% lol) (50cl Bottle )
1 TANQUERAY - 47.3% Special Dry (70cl Bottle )
1 AFTERSHOCK - Silver (70cl Bottle )

90% poteen was £33 a bottle.

all horrid (my opinion)

edit: Sorry TANQUERAY like and gin is a nice G and T in the summer.

Aftershock is nice if you are 17

Poteen at that strength is just vile, most spirits are over 40-45% i reckon.

The Knockeen Poteen is a nice drink but it's best in 'Farmers Strength' which IIRC is about 60%. The others are too strong to be fully appreciated and need to be mixed in order to be drank sensibly.

Why don't you avoid the tacky student drinks and go for something a bit more classy? Try a good whiskey, brandy or a sherry, any of which depending on your tastes will be vastly superior to the nightclub specials.

I picked up a bottle of Belvedere 1.5litre today myself. I've taken to nursing it in a rather effeminate manner, with Cranberry, but not a bad drink over all. Especially straight. Much superior to any other Vodka's I've tried.

I take it the student drink is aftershock?, i know it aint classy and i am not trying to be, just wanted to have a few bottles of something different to break out once in a while.
I really dislike whisky and dont like brandy or sherry at all, cheers anyway.... oh also what do people think of jagermeister?

Aftershock isn't classy, but that's not the point I think he's making. Aftershock tastes horribly cheap. Think of it as a similar palate to the likes of WKD or Red Square. For the same money you could have tried something a little different.

If you haven't ordered yet, I'd recommend Grey Goose, or Belvedere. As that store has both in stock. Don't bother with flavored Vodka though.

Tastes like Liquorice and is just a poncy drink people mention to look clever if you ask me.

try a bottle or pernod (aniseed taste) and drink it with water. Deffo an acquired taste but i like it.

ive been drinking a new cider called KOPPARBERG its a swedish cider made with pears, really refreshing and nice ;)

All Wetherspoons have them ;) They do summer fruits and some other variants aswell, not actually tried a bottle myself, just stolen the glass from a mate, seems rather sweet to be honest.

Silver Tequilla is gooood...well it was when I was rather drunk and swigging from the bottle....

Aftershock is a bit of fun really, when done this way...
Take a shot, knock it back into your mouth (DON'T) swallow it, gargle and rinse it round your mouth for about a minute (till you can't stand the burning anymore), then swallow it, and close your teeth and breath through them.

Dribbly fun!!

Thanks guys, i've had the cinnamon aftershock loads when i was younger but i am dead against vodka now probably for many more years to come for my own reasons.

Dont do this if you dont want to bring half your night back up! :o

Cointreau with lime and lemonade is really nice, really refreshing but will **** if your not careful.

I hate aftershock after a few bad experiences, quality + quantity is better than sheer potency.

I never said it was a good idea ;)

Never done it during a night out though, so have always been fine. I tend to stick to ciders, and Southern Comfort and lemonade, or vodka and coke, cherry brandy is nice. There are many many many different alcohols out there, the only real way to find out what they are like is to do what my brother does...buy a bottle and find out, sometimes you are onto a winner, other times you really aren't.

29.95 here. It's not too bad I suppose. I'd rather pay the extra for the taste and quality. I don't really think you can compare it to Smirnoff and the likes.

I guess I'm ruining that by mixing it though, but drinking straight liqueur on a sunday afternoon? I haven't got that bad yet..

It's ok, it's Monday morning now. :p

The only vodka I'll drink nowadays is Absolut, from previous bad experiences with Smirnoff I can't drink any cheap vodkas now :(

You're right, haha.

Absolut isn't a bad vodka, it's what I'll usually have if the bar doesn't stock the others. Cheap Vodka's are just horrible though. It's what put me off Vodka for the longest time infact.
