Something fun for 5k

The OP is my brother.

He's at the pub with his GF so I'll step in and add my 2p's worth.

He's looking fro something "fun". When he said this he forgot to add he’s coming from a 306 DT. Although he is 28 and has 3 years NCB so insurance shouldn't be too much of a problem, although I'd like it if he would he's not looking to kill him self in a RWD rice rocket. I think he’s just looking for something with a little more go.

He was looking at Golf MK4 GTI's for about £3.5, I told him there over priced and stay away from any of the slow as 2L N/A. He was also looking into slightly older 1.8T but I said he might be better off getting a CTR from around 02/03. Good advice.

Other thing I've suggested is a 328ci E46, he was a little worried about the running costs. Would these be much higher than the said golf’s above? I though this would be "fun" have a bit class and would be good for longer journeys. Also I think your getting more for your money worth one of these that the equivalent hatches, true?

I'm sure he'll be back soon anyway to give you some feedback.

get an audi quattro 2.2 turbo :D go like **** off a shovel and stick to the road like glue! 220BHP stock and chip them pretty cheaply to about 300BHP! and you should be able to pick up a good one for under 5K :P

No RWD? Well I guess that'll put an end to everyone suggesting an MX-5. I'd still encourage him to at least try a decent RWD car.

Failing that, I guess it's Scooby time :)

If you want a fun, reliable car that is relatively easy to drive on the limit, and handles great, then i'd suggest an integra type r.

RWD option would be the MX5 for me. Both are reliable and wouldn't cost the earth to run.

Given his requirements and what his brother has said..

I think a Clio 172/182 would be perfect. He'll get one in decent condition for that price, they are fairly nippy

Only good suggestion in here for an exciting daily drive has been a DC2 imo.

edit: btw clios just don't really do it for me and an a DC2 would be more raw than a mx5 :)
