Guys.

Bit of an opinion wanted - I am coming to the end of my Orange contract and find myself being pulled towards the iPhone.

However, the tariffs that O2 are touting along with them appear to be less than favourable!

At the mo I pay about 30 a month for a mix of minutes and texts (I was on the 35 quid tariff but their best plan told me to downgrade so I did!) - I am not a bit textor or a big caller but a good mix of both!

As for the phone itself I am looking for something a bit sexy looking, touch screen, wireless and 3G with perhaps a bit of GPS etc.

I have a works N95 and not that fussed on that - and I guess I was going to the iPhone as I have the Touch and its quite funky.

I have also looked at the Blackberry range as I will probably want to do some browsing and most definately a lot more emailing from the handset as I will be out of the office a lot more.

So any opinions appreciated - and will the Blackberry Thunder be out by Christmas???

Cheers!

the Iphone, the general opinion seems to be, is more eye-candy than function.

winmobile phones, whilst a little more sluggish than an iphone, have FAR more functionality and capabilities overall.

Currently people I think who are due to upgrade, myself included, are waiting for the promised HTC Diamond HD or the Diamond Pro.

The former has probably the best screen of any phone, with a nice crisp resolution. The latter has a handy slide out QWERTY keyboard and decent screen.

You mean the Touch HD, right?

That does look awesome.

I'm imagining it running Android...

As someones pointed out the iPhones more eye candy, ive had one for 12months and now it has to be changed due to being left behind in the tech stakes, no multi texts, no pic mms and the download speeds ridiculous!.
Got a c902 from Sony Ericsson not and iPhone type mobile but very good till something better comes along that can take the iPhone on, personally waiting for Xperia!.

Aye I do :)

Slight typo hehe.

If you can't wait then the omnia and Diamond are good choices but with the better HD and Pro around the corner I'd wait personally.

Cheers guys - think I will go check out the Diamond and the strange sounding Omnia
:D

I agree completely

Are they? I'm waiting for the xperia x1, haven't even considered the HTC as they just look cheap to me (its the plastic with shiny front 'stuck' on)
I considered the omnia but the screen res lets it down for me.

I'd say the xperia has better screen res and actually uses more of the available space than the touch/pro as they only have 2/3 of the face used for screen.

However another option to consider is the HTC Touch HD (the all touch option), little bigger size wise but does have a full screen versus 2/3 on the other touch models.

Like what

I'm not baiting for an argument, it's just that I'm a recent iPhone convert and used Windows Mobile phones for around 3 years in the past. Unless I'm overlooking something I can't honestly see how Windows Mobile has far more "FAR more functionality and capabilities" than the iPhone.

Copy and paste functionality, MMS functionality (unless iPhones have added them recently).

Ability to install many different programs, not just ones that Apple have OK-ed.

Ability to upgrade memory capacity through some flavour of SD card.

Apple have the ooh-shiny OS (which has some decent functionality) and the capacitive touchscreen. Add them to an HTC device, and that would be pretty awesome.

decent cameras

That's subjective though.

Granted copy and paste support is lacking, but generally speaking it's quite easy for developers to get their apps on the app store and it's not exactly hard to jailbreak to get other apps on there. MMS, while not OOTB, is still possible; same goes for codec support. Bluetooth works fine for headsets, I'm not bothered about anything else but I can see why people would be.

While I can see that Windows Mobile devices can do some things better I wouldn't say it's leaps and bounds ahead in all areas at all. Certainly not so much as to say that it has "FAR more functionality and capabilities overall" than the iPhone.
