Something more traditional?

Things that are more traditional that you might want to look at. Please note, though, that everyone's tastes/posterior is different, so you might want to see if you can try a few of these before parting with any cash.

Ikea Markus
Teknik Cobham
Aston Synchronous Fabric chair
Beta 24 hour office chair
Used Herman Miller Aeron (unless you have deep pockets and can afford a new one!)
Used Steelcase Leap (unless you have deep pockets and can afford a new one!)

OK, time for an update to this thread.

I’ve been playing around with ideas on how best to deal with my cockpit for ages.
For a long time, have been using an Ikea office chair, like this:

Felt good in the shop, but tends to leave my backside feeling a bit numb after too long, which is probably an age related issue (ain’t getting any younger).

Decided to have a go at overhauling things.
Looked at the various commercial offerings. Most looked like snazzed up versions of the Ikea chair. The other option was a genuine cockpit solution from Obuto or similar. Fine apart from the cost and the space that they seemed to need.
For reference, the missus is not exactly the biggest fan, so I get the corner of our smallest bedroom. Rather precludes triple monitor setups.
So back to basics, and this is where I say thanks to the various people on the forums who suggested ideas that I’ve ended up using.

For reference, my table is a glass topped unit from JL. Smart looking piece of kit. Looks like this:

Unfortunately, the side effect it being made of glass and steel is that it doesn’t really encourage you to put screws into it.

So here’s the solution. For a chair, had an Ikea one kicking around that I’ve owned for years. Added a couple of mouse rests onto that. That allowed me to place my CH Fighterstick on and Throttle. The Fighterstick is velcro’d in place to prevent it moving. The throttle doesn’t get shoved around as much, as seems happy to sit still.

The mouse is on an arm at the moment, but in use, I find it easier to rest of my right leg, a bit like a pilot would put his notes.
The problem with the chair is that it’s a good deal lower than the table, so needed a few changes.

First up was to bring the monitors forward towards where you sit. Then I’ve used a pair of the Farnell VESA mounts on either leg of the table, onto which I’ve setup a shelf for the keyboard, which is now at a nice height for use.
The lower shelf is screwed to the VESA mounts. The secondary one is attached using heavy duty velcro, allowing it to be moved if needed.

Under the table is my CH Rudder pedals. Velcro’d onto a lump of wood, which stops them sliding around on the carpet.
So I now have a very comfortable seating position, HOTAS, keyboard and mouse all to hand. Monitors at good heights and the Oculus CV1 to one side for those times in ED and DCS. For reference the monitors are a 27" Dell unit and the vertical one is an old Dell 22" IPS.

Cost was:
- Arms for the chair. These are about £12 each, available from Ebay
- Heavy duty Velcro. Think I spent about £15
- x2 VESA mounts, £40 for the pair
- Some old lumps of wood. Free, as they were from a kitchen revamp
