Something needs to change next season

True but he grew up with this style of football and it has only been in the last 6-7 years that strikers (and players in general) have needed to be big strong and quick.

No doubting his ability but without either blistering pace or strength there will be a doubt over whether he can cut it over here, especially when the likes of Sheva and Morientes have failed so badly.

A lot will depend on whether he's ready to put up a fight because if he's not then i don't think he has the physical side of his game to fall back on. Somebody like Eto'o will make it over here even if he didn't fancy getting the **** kicked out of him every game as his pace will still make him extremely effective.

lol So because Torres adapted and in your opinion Villa is a better player, that automatically means that Villa will adapt? :D

Whether Villa is better than Torres or not (i don't agree btw), how Villa adapts is totally dependent on him. Better players than Villa have came to this league and failed to make it.

Torres made the adaption look easy because physically he's up to it and also rather than sulk (like Reyes) when he got kicked all over the pitch by Bikey or Terry, he got up and wasn't afraid to put himself about.

Also im not sure why you being an Arsenal fan makes any difference over your judgement. It's not as if Villa is an Arsenal player or likely to join you either. In his interview, all he said was he likes Arsenal because of the style of play but he also likes Liverpool because he has a lot of friends there.

to be fair i thought villa was the better player but torres has been a revelation this season and i'd be mighty impressed if villa could match that.

however as that is a compliment to a pool player allow me to redeem myself: he might not have sulked against Bikey or Terry but he threw a right little strop from Ferdinands back pocket :)

Also and i'll fetch the article in a minute didn't he not even mention liverpool at all? wasn't it something about liking to play with torres for spain? i don't really read too indepth when players i like say they want to go to other clubs. makes me queasy.

DAVID VILLA is ready to snub Chelsea and move to Arsenal.

The £20million-rated Valencia striker, 26, shot to the top of Avram Grant’s summer hitlist after netting 63 goals over the last three seasons.

Chelsea chief Grant is thought to have made contact over a move.

But Villa insists he would rather be a Gunner.

Villa said: “I watch the Premier League a lot and the team I’m most attracted to is definitely Arsenal.

“Their brilliant one and two-touch football and the whole style of rapid counter-attack which dominates the top level of the Premier League now is the one which suits my game best of all.

“I think I’m made to succeed in England but of course it’s one thing saying it and quite another getting there and then doing it.

“The Valencia president always told me he wouldn’t sell me until summer 2008. If an offer comes in I’m hungry to test myself in England.”

If Villa cannot agree a deal with Arsenal, his next option would be to join fellow Spain international Fernando Torres at Liverpool.

He added: “It’s great playing alongside Fernando. We understand each other totally and we get on brilliantly off the park.”

doesn't that sound like a paper adding it's own context a little? i mean he sounds to me like he's talking about playing with torres for spain, thus the present tense and all? unless anyone's got a full transcript handy.

When i was in spain with work before Torres moved the general consensus was that Villa was the better player.

Very possible.

I was happy when we signed Torres but not over the moon as i didn't think he'd score the 20+ goals needed but like Dan says Torres has been a revelation and looks a different player to when he was in Spain. I guess playing with better players has made the difference for him so who knows what he could have done by now had he been at Barca, Real or Valencia rather than Athletico.

As for him mentioning Liverpool and Arsenal:
Would you adapt to English football as well?

- I think so. Their football is fast, counter-attacking, which is the best for my qualities. Of course it’s a different story to get there and be successful. As a fan, I like Arsenal because they play one, two touch football and they’re very good at it. And because of my mates, I like Liverpool.
Taken from the original article and translated by some guy on rawk. Other than specific mentions of wanting to play under Benitez and his partnership with Torres that was the only question relating any specific clubs.

edit: Dan don't trust that **** rag. He never spoke to them. It was an article in Spain which they've manipulated. If you speek Spanish i'll post the original. Or the translated version is on rawk which i can't link due to swearies.

In his interview, all he said was he likes Arsenal because of the style of play but he also likes Liverpool because he has a lot of friends there.

And he wouldn't at Arsenal? 1 current Spanish International, 2 first team squad members who speak fluent Spanish and 2 Arsenal players on loan in Spain.

Personally there are other areas we need to spend money on first.

lol i don't mind either way, like i said he's a player i like. i don't want to read about him wanting to go to either of our rivals. that's just the source i'd read and i know you have to take everything it says with a pinch of salt.

he'd be pretty pricey though i imagine. be a big buy for wenger, which i don't know if he'd be happy making. obviously for liverpool you'd have to see what happens over next couple of months.

There will be money to spend regardless of the ownership. I don't think we'd be after another £20m+ striker though and i wouldn't be overly excited about Villa. Not convinced he'd like it over here and his partnership with Torres for the Spanish national side hardly set the world alight.

I'd imagine we'll be after a couple of full-backs (Aurelio can't stay fit and Finnan's finished) and a winger. Though saying that if reports are believed then we're after Johnson (City one) and Barry. I swear Rafa's trying to corner the market in cm's, unless he's after Barry as a lb.
