Something went wrong, ordered a Mustang, yet ended up in a British hotrod, I blame OcUK!

Washed car Saturday whilst hungover and as always Sunday it threw it down, still managed to grab a couple of nice photos:

Also getting the Clio back today after a full paint restoration by Autobrite, they got rid of pretty much all the scratches and it looks absolutely incredible, shall post images up later.
Am also very impressed with the camera on the my new phone (iPhone XS Max) really takes incredible pictures and seems to just pull out more detail. :)

Hi there

It is on a cold morning like this morning when the car is all iced up you appreciate having stuff like remote start/heating, heated windscreen, heated wheel and heated seats. No having to scrape screens or having to battle with trying to open the door, just remote start the car ten minutes early and its clear, then when leaving work simply hit the heated windscreen button for literally near instant clearing the front screen.

It is what makes the SVR such an epic super car:

You need a garage. :p

Have contemplated knocking this one down and building a bigger one to be honest as garages are not that expensive, just probably spent more booking a holiday, but in fairness I've never really felt the absolute need to put a car in a garage, but absolutely do need a garage for all the sets of spare wheels I've got. :D

You need to get a mechanic who starts your cars for you, does the first fart in the morning to warm the seat (but windows open) and then hands you the keys as you dive in and race off, throwing stones all over him to 'learn him his place'. Or her, it can be a her too....if she's fit.

:D

They can’t jump in cos it’s locked anyway, once you press the brake it checks for the key and then would cut out had you unlocked it but still no key in the cabin. There is subtle hint in the manual to be private road use only.

Yep this, car remains locked and if you do unlock it and then get in without key it cuts out.
Not that I care about legality, but I only ever use remote start at home and work, both of which are private land.

On another note I took a brave pill this morning as I normally jump in the M3 on wet days to do skids. :D
Today it was wet but warm, so fully went DSC OFF and Dynamic mode and the SVR does proper skids like a RWD car, lets go really quick due to the power/torque but then holds the angle quite nice, its not quite as finessed as the M3 due to its weight, size, power and AWD but it does it and it does it well. Really quite surprised! :)

Doesn't the F-Type R AWD (SVR only?) send all of its power the rear and only split to front where/when required?

90% rear yes, hence why it does the skids so well, its easily one of the best AWD systems I've driven, even though its not the most advanced but it does have quite a nice mechanical feeling.

For me I far prefer cars that have an element of mechanical grip rather than shall we say electronic. This is why my 911 was so bloody damn good and also why the Clio is so much fun, they are just about mechanical grip with no real computers to try and aid them beyond that, the M3 is also great but of course has less grip due to engine location etc but the M3 has the best throttle control of any car I have owned.

Hi there

Just booked my car in for a major service with Jaguar, for some reason I was expected around £1000, to be told on the phone its £445 but we will deduct the air filters and give you a discount so expect mid £300's and arranging to hopefully get a 2.0 F-Type as I want to feel the difference from lack of weight and then I'd have driven all three engine types.

Jaguar fixed priced servicing:
https://www.jaguar.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance/fixed-price-servicing.html

Have to say its a real pleasant surprise that servicing cost are so reasonable for what is a 100k plus supercar, so good work on that front Jaguar. :)

Also took a weekend break away in Wales, which was lovely, most of the photos are not of cars, but keeping it on topic hear is a nice photo I got:

Car has not had a wash for a while, so its a dirty cat, still looks ace though.
So its a year on now and close to 10,000 miles, been totally trouble free and such an epic car.

Though plans are not rock solid yet, but intentions are to pay the car of this month/next and then look at getting something like a 570S / GT3 towards end of next year, with 570S spider been favourite right now, I am simply waiting as the values of them seem to be getting hit very hard at present as in dropping 5k or so every month whereas the SVR is holding value much stronger, which is probably due to the limited number of cars on the road.

But yep 570S Spider is favourite, for me the only negatives of such a car from my limited experience is they do sound rubbish in comparison and off the line traction is not as good, but traction once moving actually seems better on the 570S, especially mid corner and on the brakes in the wet, no doubt simply because one is 1300kg and the SVR is 1700kg, plus mid engine etc.

Does this feel as big as it looks?

In the dry it feels like a 1500kg car, very nimble, incredibly direct turn in and fantastic grip and handling.
In the wet it is also generally very good, but in cold wet and greasy conditions then you can feel the weight, but that would be the same for any car in such conditions unless its something very lightweight like a Caterham or Lotus.

However acceleration wise, it feels light, it feels so over engined in a very good way as there is so much torque and so much urgency, it will pin you in the seat from 1500rpm and pull relentless towards 7000rpm, thats the beauty of a V8 and supercharger combined.

I've now got a dragy in the car and the slowest 0-60 has been 3.4s in poor conditions with the fastest 0-60 clocking in at 3.1s and those were all without trying, I am yet to do a full VMAX launch to see if it can dip under 3s, remarkable for how consistent it is and how easy it is to do, no LC, just plant the throttle and off you go. :)

Blimey, 1700KG

Pretty much the weight of any car of this class, its actually closer to 1650kg with mods done, but unfortunately all these class of cars are 1600-1900kg.

Thankfully its got so much power and torque the weight is never a hinder when it comes to accelerating as proven at Santa Pod with an 11.1@126mph PB. :)

Large engine and 4wd system means the weight quickly adds up, its more of a GT car than anything else really so the weight isn't too bad at all.

To be honest I think Jaguar did quite a good job, GTR's weigh around 1750kg and have less comfort and features the SVR has in comparison, proper 8 speed auto, insanely comfortable seats with heating and cooled (MY17 onwards), front heated windscreen, remote starting, very good audio system and it still weighs less than a GTR and has a V8 with supercharger for good measure. :)

I am still yet to drive a car that launches as well as this does in the wet, it is stupidly quick off the line in less than ideal conditions and is also for me more fun to drive simply as you can feel the speed in it. :)

Don’t forget it’s designed as a roadster and hence couoe Just makes it stiffer as limited scope to remove or downgauge the common panels.

Look at the mass difference on an M6 when they roadster that and need bolt on parts (I know it has a folding hardtop but it’s +200kg)

I don't think its all that bad, Jaguar designed a fantastic road car, it was never meant as a track or lightweight weapon, even though its incredibly capable in such an environment as proven by Dale Lomas with the ring taxis.

I am sure they will lose some weight in the updated F-Type but at the same time they will no doubt lose that glorious soundtrack at same time as well.

My R8 is 1595kg and that was supposed to be Audi Lightweight Marketing Special weight.

My GT3 was 1349kg which was light for such a car, current one is 1413kg

Generally cars have become heavy, but of course suspension technology, differentials and electronics have all improved greatly which is why many heavy cars still drive and handle so well even though they are very heavy, the GTR really is the perfect example of this as they weigh around 1750kg, there are not many modern super quick cars under 1500kg, I think to memory without going hypercar your just talking stuff like GT3 and Mclarens, all the modern German, Japanese and British stuff are generally north of 1600kg.

A bit of a focus on numbers here. You sound like fox and his universal 0-60.

It’s all about how they feel to drive. Something acme still has to realise.

Spot on really, the SVR blew my socks off the first time I drove it and it still continues to do so, which is why if and when I do change it, then it shall be late next year and only something as incredible as a Mclaren really seems an appropriate replacement which I guess kind of shows how great the SVR is. :)

Hi there

Well really more praise for Jaguar service.
Dropped my car of yesterday for its Service, which they agreed to do at the fixed price of £349, even though they use the more expensive Castrol 0W-20 oil as its only approved oil and made specially for that specific engine. They also agreed a discount.
A new XF Sportbrake Portfolio AWD was loaned to me, nice car, proper cruiser, no sensation of speed or performance even though its a 250PS AWD, just felt slow in all honesty but for a cruising around, very comfortable.

Car was ready to collect some hours later, they were like were apologetic but we can get the discounted price to under £300 as your specific car also needs a transbox/gearbox oil change as what came out was quite dark and the oil is expensive, but we've done the parts, service at essentially cost so the total bill is £315 with the VAT.

I was like I will be honest before I learned about fixed price servicing I was expecting a £1000-£1500 service cost, seems the norm with cars of such ilk and performance, so was pleasantly surprised, even more so.
I will also comment the gearbox is more responsive in auto mode for sure, just more responsive than its already very responsive self so it was certainly due the oil change.

But also their attention to detail, they did not wash as requested, they pumped the tyres up, they filled the screen wash and they also did a thorough health report with zero issues, front tyres 6mm, rears 5mm, brake pads 40% worn.

So many only comment when things go bad, I just want to say the service I have received from Stratstone Hanley has been nothing short of fantastic and the pricing for a main dealer is absolutely superb, especially considering this is a car that is 110-140k new with options, yet the servicing is really nothing out the oridinary and comes just once a year or every 16,000 miles, though I add my own interim oil change also done by dealership which cost circa £150 by them, just for peace of mind.

But again, great service and very fair pricing.
This level of service, expertise and knowledge is what can keep you loyal and happy with a brand, yes that's the other surprising thing all the technicians really know their stuff, the older techs are super knowledgeable and the younger ones are true enthusiast. It is so pleasant compared to the shambles that was the Ford main dealer (Bristol Street), of course Ford in Congleton were also experts and professional.

Thanks Jaguar! :)

Guess Arden run a similar setup to mine as can certainly here some SC whine in that video, though the whine on mine is even louder, the noise never gets tiring. :)

Hi there

Though the next car is not yet decided, I've decided to advertise the SVR and put it for sale on PH soon, I was hoping some could help me with writing the advert and what I should or not include.

For example would putting in the advert that is the quickest known SVR in the world in quarter mile at 11.1@126mph be a good or bad thing, or will people just think raced or will they think enthusiast owned and well looked after? I guess some see as a positive but some would feel raced and abused, though a 10s run at full throttle is far less stressful than say a 200mph run down the autobahn.

Of course I shall include the rare options such as Carbon roof as it makes it a rare option and puts it in lightest possible specification with the 2PC brake disc on the car.

I am thinking I should leave the ceramic wheels on the car as they look far more striking than the gunmetal SVR wheels, I can simply just sell those wheels separately on ebay as they go for 1-2k typically.

As I am in no rush I was going to advertise the car at £74,950 which is a little over but not much over, but the spec could swing it and at this pricing level people will pay 2-3k more to get a car in the spec they want. Or maybe I should advertise even higher just on the off-chance I get someone who wants a car with my spec/colour.

This miles and colour seem to changing hands in the 72-75k bracket, Jaguar offered 67k to buy it, which makes me guess they'd advertise it at 71-74k as they typically aim for 5-6k profit I think on a used car and I am not in a particular rush so do not want to price it too competitively and it then sells, not always end of world as I have M3 and Clio to use, or even Aston at weekends, but ideally I'd quite like to hang on to it for a few more months yet just make sense to advertise it in case a taker comes along.

The only other blue one for sale is at Redline, 72k, no carbon roof, no ceramic wheels, no 2PC brakes and the ones with carbon roof and ceramics are 87k and 89k at Jaguar, albeit MY18 models.
