So the average person does a 9-5 average job 5 days a week and spends 11-7 asleep. Agree?

8hrs a day working, 8hrs sleeping, leaving 8hrs to yourself. Sounds reasonable
Until you think that the first two hours are taken up getting ready for work and actually getting to work..
So you're down to six hours.
Take off another hour to get home, get washed and changed.
5 hrs.
Oh, now all the shops are shut and it's dark.
So realistically everyone dreams of the weekend.
So you have 24 hrs over 2 days to get everything done and have a good time.

In effect you work 40 hrs to have 24hrs of fun.

In my book that's a bit pants when you look at it like that, not to mention depressing.

Depends on if you enjoy your job!

this....

also good incentive to get a well paid career so you can take early retirement also a good incentive to take a career break every so often.

I fully intend to either take a 6 month unpaid leave of absence from my current employer to go traveling or take a year out to go do a masters degree

But you don't see any of this coming when you are leaving school at 17.
(Well I didn't :D)

I dunno - I used to get upset about it when I was 4 and started school - worked out that I spent more of my waking hours during the week in school than I got to spend playing with me lego - distressed me quite a lot at the time IIRC

To make the OP even happier you've missed out overtime! Seriously though I enjoy my job and my pay enables me to buy stuff so no work = no stuff = :(

And the kicker is that most of us will be doing that for about 45+ years ;)

Even when you're not employed you're working looking for job so the slavery is holistic!

You forgot your 20 days holiday :p which you don't get as unemployed!

Only way is to remember that if you've not done something in the last 15 minutes then it's lost from your lifetime forever. So live life!
I attempt to get everything done monday-thursday (including the shopping) which leaves friday night and the weekend free.
