Something wrong with the work life balance!

This is why most of the population are on anti-depressants.

Did slavery really end or just evolve?

You say that but a 40 hour working week is a modern thing. Generations previous would have been working much longer hours, for worse conditions for less pay with less opportunities...

Even though I work hard at my job and business, I'm glad that I'm not down t'pit.

I do 8 til 4 mon-fri (leaving at 4 99% of the time) is well paid and I enjoy my job. I have a couple of hobbies (which can be done every day, one of which is done everyday for at least an hour).

OP Fails.

I have 2 part time jobs, and still manage to only work 24 hours a week, over 3 days.

I earn enough in those 24 hours to run my car, pay my bills+mortgage, and put money in a savings account every month.

id look at how much money you are wasting - fags, too much food, booze, eating out at expensive places etc etc. You can cut down on loads of stuff.

Sounds to me like "doing jobs we dont want so we can buy s*** we dont need" ala fight club

:)

Throwaway culture isn't it.

I was round a freinds house the other day, had a chicken, talking about the price of chicken "oh it's too expensive" he was saying, but there was still plenty of meat left on the carcass and he hadn't boiled it for stock, binned it.
Or someone who buys a new set of shoes every month, i've had the same pair of trainers for a year, they've got not grip left but i've cared for the outsides and they still look like new.

People don't realise how much money they throw away.

And this is why I hate the idea of working a 9-5 in an office and having essentially 2 weeks off a year. Unless you really enjoy your job (which apparently not many do... again if you don't like your job find another one!) that is not life, that's drudge and not worth living..

So the average person does a 9-5 average job 5 days a week and spends 11-7 asleep. Agree?

8hrs a day working, 8hrs sleeping, leaving 8hrs to yourself. Sounds reasonable
Until you think that the first two hours are taken up getting ready for work and actually getting to work..
So you're down to six hours.
Take off another hour to get home, get washed and changed.
5 hrs.
Oh, now all the shops are shut and it's dark.
So realistically everyone dreams of the weekend.
So you have 24 hrs over 2 days to get everything done and have a good time.

In effect you work 40 hrs to have 24hrs of fun.

In my book that's a bit pants when you look at it like that, not to mention depressing.

See this is what the annoying thing is...

This isnt what Life is ment to be about. We should be enjoying ourselves every single day yet we are all working around like slaves hating life....

I work an average 60-70 hour week (from leaving house to getting home at night) and i don't find it overly burdensome. I just pack in everything I want to do into the time I have available through planning.

I think the only 'time' i've lost since working these kind of hours is the 2-3 hours spent lazying in front of the tv every evening watching nothign in particular, which is no great loss to me.

Including my commute I've been working about 60 hour weeks, haven't had an issue with it so far; then again I'm loving my job so that helps, days at the office are flying by.

As the chap a couple of posts above says, if you feel short of time get off the internet and DO SOMETHING! :)

I still have time for the gym and a bit of a chinwag in the evenings, and make the most of my weekends...until about half 9 on a Sunday anyway, when OcUK takes over!

Sounds like work is your life tbh

Meh, i think we have it easier now than in past generations.

Also think about those backwards tribes that live in rainforests. Even they have to work long hours to put food on their plates and a roof over their heads. They probably work harder than us and moan less about it...

7:30 Get Up
8:00 Walk to work
8:30 Get to work early, start work
5:15 Walk home
5:45 Get home, put food on, shower
6:15 Eat Dinner
6:30 Done with crap....

4-5 hours to myself before bed..

Can't remember the guys name but he's that lad that goes off and lives with tribes for a few months with a video camera he was saying that their work and free time balance wasn't that much different to ours.

You don't have to work 9-5 :).

I work an average of 5/6 hours a day, spread from 8am to 12am. I find I work better at night too and there's less to do so that's great. But just generally being able to go out/take days off whenever I want is great.

PS. I run my own businesses and work from home - and it's not as hard as you think, depending on what skills you have! Certainly easier than job hunting at the moment, which is why I decided to screw that and just give myself a job.

I don't think it is tbh.

I will admit to being ridiculously ambitious career wise, so i put the hours in because it helps me get ahead at work, and usually I just need to. But outside of work i still have a crazy social life. I'm out most evenings doing sport/gym/dinner/drinks or go away for weekends. I think I just sleep less and don't waste the free time I do have.

I think the only bit of my life that probably does suffer from the long hours is relationships as I don't really have the time to commit to anyone unless they can accept that i work long hours.
