Something wrong with the work life balance!

The system is setup by accident or design to extract the maximum amount of work energy from humans as possible while rewarding them with just enough to get by, there's the prospect of getting a bigger share of the reward from your work energy so it seems like you have a chance to be well off compared to the majority, however the system make's that either very difficult to achieve or mostly luck, this though is mostly illusion designed to give the appearance of freedom to what amounts to a kind of slavery.

There's no real reason we couldn't be working 4 or even 3 days a week and have a comparable or even better quality of life as you won't be stressed from working all the time, of course that wouldn't be good for the economy or rather those in high positions of business or certain interests.

To me work should be something you enjoy, if not you need to look for a change to maintain that enjoyment. Without enjoyment then you're not as efficient or motivated.

I know guys that work purely as it's stable 7.5 hrs/day. They don't care about the work as their family/home life is their top priority.

Personally I would rather work 3 days of 12hr shifts or 4 days of 9hrs and have a 3 or 4 day break each week, this would give more time to do your own thing & enjoy life a bit more

If only every employer saw things my way :)

Until you think that the first two hours are taken up getting ready for work and actually getting to work..
Take less time to get ready maybe? Get a job closer to home or a home closer to job?

Take off another hour to get home, get washed and changed.
I assume you're some kind of tradesman or into manual labour? Otherwise don't wash/change... ? Nothing wrong with a bit of bath time either, play a little tetris on the PSP while soaking.

Oh, now all the shops are shut and it's dark.
Your shops are crap.

In my book that's a bit pants when you look at it like that, not to mention depressing.
Do something about it then? It's your own fault.

Taking into account weekends, public holidays, annual leave, flexi-time, special leave and sick leave I can work as little as 181 days per year leaving me about half my year free. The money from working allows me to do better things with that time like travel the world.

I was working in a sucky job when I worked that out about the 181 days but I did something about that as well and got myself a great job I enjoy which makes it not feel like work or wasted time.

Has anyone read the Ragged-Trousered Philanthropist?

OP Fails.

I have 2 part time jobs, and still manage to only work 24 hours a week, over 3 days.

I earn enough in those 24 hours to run my car, pay my bills+mortgage, and put money in a savings account every month.

id look at how much money you are wasting - fags, too much food, booze, eating out at expensive places etc etc. You can cut down on loads of stuff.

Sounds to me like "doing jobs we dont want so we can buy s*** we dont need" ala fight club

:)

Swings and roundabouts here.

In the past I'd happily work 60 hrs+ per week, but I don't now because I'm doing something I hate. It tends to balance out, so now I hate what I do so I work like 32 hours a week, if they give me a role which I enjoy then I'd be instantly back up to 60 hrs+, pay has little to do with it, enjoying the work does IMO. Managers are generally a bit retarded and dont get this.
