Something wrong

Removed sound card and no crashes for a good hour or more now! :-D which is ofc excellent but is there a fix so I can use sound card or is it faulty? Or hav I just lost all my money on the card.

You could try the Xonar unified drivers http://brainbit.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/

BUT

I would strongly recommend you keep to this configuration for a good couple of days so that you can positively say that the sound card and not the GPU/memory is the cause of the lockups

Once you've proved without a shadow of a doubt that it's the soundcard then I would uninstall the drivers cleanly and try the unified drivers

The thing is that it's a great card. I have both the d2x and d2 and I love the sound quality but I've heard of horror stories with these cards and gaming.

I'm not a gamer myself but whilst using my test box I'm sure I had a Xonar and new GPU in it and I got a shockingly rare lock up. I didn't think much of it as it was just the test rig and there were too many variables to investigate. (custom BIOS, hardware regularly swapped in and out etc)

As above ... the updated BIOS is worth a shot as you can easily roll back if it doesn't work. Alternatively if you're still in your LDA and gaming is important - return the card and go for an Auzentech.

Personally I love the card and couldn't care less if I can't game on it. Having a search round you may have to fiddle with the bitrate / mode of the card when gaming or use the Unified drivers.

Good luck... you now have lots of options to play with ;)

Now where is that build/trouble log that you promised us :) (and my cuppa tea !)

Yeah latest gen SSDs really rock... I'm so glad I went SSD(for my own personal machines) during gen 3 and didn't have to go through all that pain. I watched patiently on the side lines :D

edit: Actually tell a lie... My first SSD was a vertex 2e but I've mostly been buying gen 3 over the past 6-8 months

Won't turn on now :-(

Do you mean it goes on and fans spin but its a blank screen or you get no fans spinning at all? is the red light lit up on the onboard power button on the motherboard when u have the PSU plugged in and turned on?

Move the little blue jumper on the motherboard that reset the CMOS/BIOS to the other pin for a while and take the battery out of the motherboard for a few minutes and put it back in and set the jumper back to the correct position or have you tried that already?(also make sure the jumper is in on the right pins because this would stop the PC turning on,maybe you moved it by accident?). Also in the BIOS make sure you set the overclocking from auto to manual so ,set your BCLK frequency to 100,set the turbo ratio to 38 ,disable PLL over voltage, turn load line calibration off,set phase controll to standard. How old is the PSU BTW? maybe its failed?(just looked up that PSU it seems solid.....)

Comes on with blank screen. Going to pull it apart and put it back together just to make sure everything in properly first then take it step at time. PSU is brand new everything is!

Keep updating us about whats happening im particularly interested in your case because i got a a P8Z68-V motherboard and all the rest of my parts from overclockers and it worked for about a week then i started getting the blank screen treatment/crashing and overclockers took my graphics card back for testing, said it works fine and sent it back to me after i paid them the £28 to test it. Got it back still doesnt work, got another P8Z68-V motherboard elsewhere beleiving that to be the problem and it didnt solve anything i still get the same issues and had to send that motherboard back for refund. This has been ongoing since the 22nd of December and im losing my patience and sanity.

I've seen a high number of people complaining about the same kind of things with this motherboard and its variants and i dont know if that is related to whats happening to either of us,i just think OCUK didnt test the card properly in my case and if thats what has happened then im seriously annoyed at having to pay twice for a broken graphics card, the amount of cash it costed to test the card is basicly equal to what i paid for it to begin with:(

Try the graphics card in the middle PCIe slot and see what happens.......

I hope you can get it to work and dont have the trouble and suffering that i've been going through(and still am:mad:)

I'm back!! lol everything came out checked re-seated switched on and now I can see again. Going to sort all drivers etc next. Sorry your having troubles too!!! I seriously wanted to cry earlier but this machine is not gunna beat me lol xxx

Glad you got it to turn back on again!

If your star wars game still crashes id try a different graphics card/soundcard driver and if that fails maybe a reinstall of the game and if that fails too then reinstall windows which is a pain in the behind but might fix it.

Hopefully it just works without having to do anything else to it! let us know if you get your game working and good luck!
