Hi all, my first post here, was given this site by a gaming friend and told to post my problem here. I have an Alienware area51 alx system, and it just doesn't seem to be running as well as it should do, although I used to be a computer engineer some 12 years ago, things have changed a lot and I have no idea where to go now. I have run 3d mark vantage and got this http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3189341 , the pc is not tune in any way and I would like to know what to do with it. If you guys need any more info I will happily add it.

How well does it run in terms of general usage? Does that warning message always come up when you run the benchmark? Also have you tried any other benchmarks? Is the system overclocked?

If you are comparing it to other results on 3DMark, then you have to take into account most of the results are going to be from desktop PC's not laptops, which may be slightly gimped due to size and cooling restraints.

He has a desktop PC? Gimped or not, it shouldn't be very far off results wise.

Maybe he's comparing it to overclocked pc's?

It still shouldn't be ridiculously far behind the oc'd systems, whether it's overclocked or not.

I'd just set default presets in bios, update drivers or reinstall your os if you're experiencing issues aside from this benchmark. If everything else runs as expected then just ignore it ;)

It is the 3D mark "your score is lower than other systems.." that has really made me think, I've had trouble in games with the fps rate, as you can see the 3d mark can not find the speed and ram of my cards, i think this is my problem, sorry about my grammar and if it seems im babbling.

I can't seem to find the manufacturer of the graphics card for trying to download the correct drivers, i think CCC has just given it a random driver. Alienware has 3 bios settings as they come overclocked, should i just set it to the original (intel) bios or use one of the two alienware ones?

ok go into your device manager and right click your Graphics Card Device and press the details tab. In the dropdown box select Hardware ID's and it should saysomething like PCI\VEN_1111&DEV_1111 Ect. write down the numbers after "VEN_" and "DEV_" and goto PCI Database

Enter in your "VEN_" number where it says Search Vendors. It should give you the manafacture. Click that then CTRL + F the "DEV_" Number and it should give you the link to download the driver...

I rushed that so if it don't make sense my bad :D

it still does not say which make it is only amd, i didn't think there was a bog standard 5970, the amd site doesnt let you enter it as them making it...
0x689C Chip Number: EG Cypress XT HEMLOCK
Chip Description: ATI Radeon HD 5970 Series

have rerun the test again and got http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3192080 still is lower than other systems but now shows all the details, so something is better.
