Somethingtodo’s PSU roundup.

I noticed that there isn’t much info on these forums about power supply units, so I decided to do a round up of them myself, obviously I am not going to include every psu on the market, but I will include quite a few, I hope you find this guide useful. I will include the ouput in amps and watts, the higher the amps, the better, the wattage you need depends on the amount of hardware you have, there is a rough guide here : http://takaman.jp/psu_calc.html?english

Some PSU’s have active PFC;
PFC stands for Power Factor Correction and can be described as using series capacitors to “remove” the effect of leakage inductance that limits the output current. PFC can provide more efficient Power Frequency; in lay terms it means less power is lost.

This is not a detailed guide, the facts I state are correct, but I don’t go into all the over current protection bits etc.

cheers werewolf, i have a few more to add, the 380watt antec was one of them, i couldnt find details on QTECs so i email'd their support, neednt have bothered now.

M8 gd stuff and thanks...dont be disheartened its the number of ppl who read it and found it useful not the number of replies, the fact its in GH its been read. :D

Im planning to order a tagan this week, performance and value wise i reckon it blows the rest of the competition away, 28/48/28A very sexy:D

and its silent too!

edit;
My only concern is that they are new to the market and im use to the reliability of my sparkle and antec psu's, but i suppose it always good to try something new heh, although the last time i tried a new brand it was the nasty Q-tec:eek:

because they lie.

A 550 watt Qtec psu actually isn't capable of maintaining that output. Instead 550 watts is its peak output which it can output very briefly.

Put it this way. Power a vapochill with a enermax or antec 550 watt psu and everything will be fine. Try it with a Qtec though and it'll probably explode.
