Sometimes I hate this world :(

The cynic in me says its probably because the parents were buying booze on the friday night instead, and now thats them till the next benefits cheque.

Like I say, probably (hopefully) the cynic in me because those are the kind of people I mainly see being awful at prioritising moneys.

Coming home at 4-5am from work sometimes I pass some half dressed (usually a dressing gown on) women walking back from the garage clutching a pack of beer and fags - wonder who it is for.
 
The world is cruel, the system is cruel, sort out the multi millionaires/billionaires before you start feeling guilty,
Question is do you feel sad for people in much worse situations than the girl, in Brazil, India , Nigeria and many more places there are kids with no family no home and make a small income scrounging on rubbish tips in toxic waste.

maybe she keeps on buying sweets and the parents don't want her buying any sweets so just gave her the exact amount for bread, milk etc... when running her errand

Come on, don't be like that. People come to the internet to vent and chat, and someone here recounting something that happened to them isn't unusual. OP was obviously upset at what he saw, and did something nice for a stranger when many would simply have turned a blind eye. Posting here to vent and tell his history shows what an affect this encounter had on his emotions, and maybe, just maybe he's inspired some of us who read his story to be a little nicer to the next stranger we encounter in difficult circumstances.

If people didn't post about positive acts then nobody would be inspired to also do a nice thing. Sometimes all it takes is a post or video to be inspired.

Surely that's bad... if you've been drawn so far away from your basic nature that you require a forum post or video to do what's right... then something is very wrong.

Maybe I'm just naive in thinking everyone else on this forum would do the same thing... only they would not feel the need to boast about it.

I do nice things... mostly I don't tell anyone about it...

I don't feel the need to boast about normal human behaviour... it's normal

What you've posted it one of the big things that's wrong with the current world... twits feeling the need to boast about their "good deeds" on youtube / facebook / other social media... the only thing that's worse are the one who do these silly creation of scenarios where they put someone in an awkward position on purpose and video it to either big them up or shame them...

Inspiring others to perhaps do the same is a good thing, no? This isof course completely ignoring the fact that I wasn't actually bragging but expressing my disappointment that situations like this occur in the first place.

If you wish to reduce that post to bragging then that's on you.

What makes it bad? Uplifting news is uplifting for a reason. Positive things are more than just something you read about. Even people that are decent people who do good things regularly can get a boost out of reading or seeing it from around the world.

On top of that, feel good things increase dopamine and serotonin activity in the brain, which is good for well being.

The fact that you're complaining about someone who is just posting something they felt mattered and wanted to share that experience, along with a feel good outcome from it, means you could do with some of those highly important chemical functions :p
