want you guys to recomend me something to learn, any style as long as its not difficult (cant finger pick to well)

ive only been playing a year, i play stuff like rage against the machine normally but im looking to learn anything as long as it sounds good

i know this is a pretty wide field so feel free to ask me some questions :)

When i started to learn i went for Muse plug in baby cause i loved the song, just played the riff over and over again, starting really slow then building it up to full speed then faster :D

I would suggest that as it helped me loads!

Oasis would give you good movement between the majority of popular chords. Nirvana gave me a good grounding when I was starting out :)

Heres a few I've learnt or plan on learning:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
Soundgarden - Outshined
The Las - There She Goes
Green Day - Good Riddance
Metallica - Welcome Home Sanitarium
Deftones - My Own Summer
Rammstein - Sonne

Most muse guitar is pretty easy. It can have a lot of effects which can be difficult to replicate but some are not too bad and sound great even though they're simple.

it appears that ive made myself to be worse than i actually am.

I to played plug in baby about 8 billion times until i could use all my fingers when I was first starting hehe

i play a lot of nirvana stuff - im ok with most bar chord shapes and open chords

im currently playing stuff like asilos magdalena by the mars volta, clairvoyent disease by avenged sevenfold to give you an idea of were im at

thanks for the recomendations so far :)

I'd say perhaps learn
Enter Metallica - Rock Solid Instantly Recognisable Metal Classic
Some the Darkness, and Dragonforce.

The last one in particular might be hideously hard, but if you can master the speed and tempo at which they play, it will make everything else, seem that much more relaxed and easy in comparison.

i could play the main riff of surfing with the alien, and the other slower bits - soon as he gets fruity ive got no chance - just dont have the technique (let alone a trem that can cope with that type of abuse haha)

ill check out the dream theatre stuff thanks :)

edit: jesus im not that good lol, just got the gp for curve it got to the solo and i was just like -_-

slower than that if possible - i really cant tap well at all (sorry for being picky - all suggestions are greatly appriciated)

You lot telling him to learn Satriani/Metallica et al are not being very helpful imo, he would be much better off learning something a bit easier first.

Acoustic:

Damien Rice - Cannonball (lots of ways to play it - easy or hard)
Ronan Keating - When You Say Nothing At All
The Beatles - Daytripper
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Oasis - Little By Little
Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet (Have to de-tune for this though afaik)
Jack Johnson - Do You Remember

Electric:

Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe
Chuck Berry - Johhny B Goode
AC/DC - Back In Black
AC/DC - Highway To Hell
Guns n Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Status Quo - Rockin' All Over The World
Brian Adams - The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You

:)

Depends. Enter Sandman's not too hard, my dad picked most of it after an hour, and besides, different people take a different stance. Some people like to jump in the deep end, it takes longer, but by the time they're swimming, the shallow end seems like just that. Just a different method.

But he's complaining that early suggestions are too easy!! And he can already play Satriani!

bits and bobs - im not that good, lots of much more talented guitarists on this very forum, i still class myself as a beginer

Ok, lol

How about:

Dream Theater: Overture 1928 followed by Strange Deja Vu (much easier, promise! :P), Peruvian Skies, Sacrificed Sons.

Yes, I love DT :D

all these songs you guys are reccomending, are you saying go out and bye the music book or what ?

do you buy some on line, I dont know, as I have played the piano/keyboards for years and just by music sheet books.

I am slowly learning the guitar now and understanding reading tabs, so when you start to learn a new piece of music so you by the music book ?

thank you

I never buy the books. They're too expensive (I'm a student!). Also, they are not totally accurate (speaking from experience). Just get Guitar Pro and Power Tab. GP is better. Go on www.ultimate-guitar.com and search for the song you want. Most songs are on there. There's also www.powertabs.net which has all powertab songs.

Guitar Pro is better because it has got a better GUI and you can slow down songs to help you learn better, just a couple of reasons. :)

I often go long periods without playing anything, and I'm not very advanced. With this in mind, I find that most Oasis and Beatles stuff is relatively easy and enjoyable to play.
