Sonic Boom

Yep, felt it in North Herts. Wondered what the hell that was. I'm one of the only people in the office and It freaked me out.

There is a QRA notification but no further information provided at this time.

EDIT: Bunch of RRR assets up on flightradar24 so probably in support of something.

What does any of this mean, Rroff? I'm completely ignorant on all this sort of stuff.

Few RAF trainer stuff up as well (Pirate13, etc.) so could be an exercise.

Quick reaction stuff usually sent up to intercept/shadow other countries military aircraft if they are approaching or transiting near our airspace without prior agreement or if a civil aircraft does something unexpected like a passenger plane that loses contact, etc.

The RRR stuff is general RAF assets in this case stuff like tankers which might be supporting fighter aircraft in case they need to stay up for some time.

Cheers, fella!

Looking at flight radar weird ratio to helicopters up today vs normal aircraft traffic - kind of strange how the patterns have changed compared to the last few years.

Was just going to post ZK357 looks to be the culprit according to Planefinder.

Looks like RRR2118/ZZ333 is possibly up in support as well.

EDIT: Actually looks like it is taxiing currently but probably out for support.

EDIT2: And as I said that she is up.

Looks like another one out behind as well (TARTN712) so might just be regular stuff.

Oh C130 and a Globemaster out as well behind that - probably just regular traffic but interesting to see it all popping up.

It was a Eurofighter heading down from Coningsby towards the Channel, 40000ft, 1200mph. Disappeared off freedar now.

Probably just regular scheduled stuff as some of it was already out and well under way before the QRA but quite a few RAF assets popping up and heading that general direction in the last few minutes.
