Sonisphere 2011

The website says that there's a supermarket on site, though quite how extensive that'll be I have no idea. There will be food places open though, but I've no idea how expensive they'll be. I expect I'll bring sandwich construction materials (or possibly buy some there) for lunch (or breakfast depending on how early I get up), and see what the stuff there's like for evening food.

I'm not a fan of pot noodles or cup-a-soup things though, and also that would mean bringing a gas stove thing. Which apparently you're not allowed to do. Apparently barbeques and other solid fuel burners are allowed though. A barbeque would be awesome.

Also I've just noticed that it says no glass is allowed on site at all. But you're allowed to bring alcohol. Which will be in glass bottles... MADNESS

Yeh i was thinking of bringing a solid fuel hexi burner thingy just to boil water on , or a kelly kettle but that might be a bit bulky. Yah a barbeque would be awesome but i am coming on a train so it would be a bit impractical, and a disposable one would be pretty pants i imagine.

Hmm, Sounds like ill have to have some drink :P
What do you lot do about food? I am tihnking of pre cooking some pasta and putting some sauce on it then putting it in a little box, other than that just living off cuppa soups/pot noodles?

I got 2 or 3 meals from the stalls in the arena for my nosh, pricey but fills you up pretty well. Expect around £5 for burger + chips and add £2 for a bottle of coke! Might be a little more this year but we'll see.

The supermarket was alright in 2009 but some stuff was quite pricey. I'd do as above and stick to the vans, most do bacon rolls in the morning for a reasonable price.

Yeh, no gas. BBQ? Come find camp Hovis* and see if we have one on the go! :)

Also I find that beer & cider are readily available in cans in most shops. Spirits you can decant into plastic very easily and they even have a tent at the gate to switch you from glass to plastic :D

Hexi burners are stupidly crap though. Just bring a kettle and ask nicely at the vans and they'll usually fill you up for £1 or £2 quid :)

Also don't forget to bring regular foods that don't require chilling/heating. Crisps are a good choice and so are biscuits. I have 17 packs of Jaffa Cakes to bring for instance! (cheap ones mind, cost me £5 for the lot :p)

*camp Hovis is an unofficial name!

If you really need something you can always jump on the free shuttle bus back to Stevenage as there is a big tesco just over the bridge.

Last year myself and a mate brought in a few bottles of vodka completely unaware that there was this "no glass" rule. We were rumbled as we neared the end of bottle no.1 so just added to the drinks we were drinking at the time. We didnt let on we had other bottles and just exercised a bit of discretion and it was fine.

Just come prepared with some plastic bottles and you cant go wrong.

Also i found the food vans and tents on site of be of surprisingly good quality, maybe i just got lucky!!!

Ahh ok,
Looks like i'll be picking up shedloads of crisps, Biscuits, Cereal bars just to add a bit of nutrition :). I would rather not spend loads on pricey food there but maybe the odd burger or two, I am still maybe thinking about a burner of some sort for breakfasts but ill see what i feel like closer to the time :)

It's been no glass for years now hasn't it? Or was Sonisphere different at its start?

For beer you bring cans, for spirits you just decant them into plastic (pre-mixed if you've got space). Sorted.

As for food, I usually bring a few sarnies and bars for snacks. Enough for a light breakfast every morning, as the bacon baps and burgers are generally gash. The other food is usually good, though as said around the £5 - £8 mark. I seem to remember the jacket spud place at Sonisphere being pretty decent.

Yay! Beer Bong!

Wait can we make it a Spirit Bong? :D
You can have whatever you like through it. ;)

We once had a guy do half a pint of port through ours. We never saw him again. He's probably dead.

I've not been before, so the no glass thing was just a little odd at first. I guess it makes sense though. I'll stock up quite heavily on snacks before coming I expect. Snacks are awesome.

Also half a pint of port? Christ...
Tasty way to die at least.

As J1nxy said. Food wise, there's a massive Sainsburys, Asda and Tesco all within about 5 minutes of the venue so no real need to spend lots on food/drink there, except for convinience.

As it gets nearer, you guys are more than welcome to add me to twitter (@chrispycoates) or facebook (i'm the one wearing the Vorhees mask) and i'll say where we're camped.

And no drink for under 18's, you're all a very bad influence on the child :p

There was some special delivery while i was out yesterday, can only hope it is the tickets, but seeing as i only ordered it on monday i doubt it :D

I received my tickets a few days ago. Not long to go now lads! :D

I'm hoping to see some kind of hovis+pancake flag about so I can recognize the ocuk'ers :D

Here's a thought.... Since friday is dress as a superhero day maybe someone could make a cape out of empty hovis bags? Just an idea is all..... :p
