Sony Australia: PS3 outsold 360 by 45% in Q1

I fully expect MS's next console to be a monster, they have the system in place with features that Sony are still playing catch up on such as Friends, Messaging, Achievements, Matchmaking and all that other social stuff, if they develop that further then the next console could be phenomenal.

I agree, And it's unfortunately the fall down area for Sony.

If you think about it though, It's all software. Friends, Messaging, Achievements, Matchmaking and all that other social stuff are all software additions, And that's where Microsoft the number 1 OS developer on the planet flourishes.

Sony have created a fantastic piece of hardware, with hard ware backbone with dedicated servers. unfortunately the software side of things isn't as sophisticated as what MS offers

At a programming level Sony's OS on the PS3 takes up a lot more memory than the 360 equivalent, While offering somewhat less of a return.

At a user level, the MS dashboard speaks for itself, I have to admit i prefer the look of the PS3 interface, It looks a lot less childish. But the Xbox 360 dashboard feature wise, Is easily better. Then again, Xbox live was launched with Xbox, so they've had 2 generations to perfect it.

As for australia I think i've only ever played one aussie on xbl in the years I've had the 360.

maybe due to the timezone?
lots of aussies on live if the time trials for various games are right with their national flag next to name

I totally agree, Microsoft = **** hardware but good software wheras it's completely the reverse for Sony.


I do think that if MS learnt from their mistakes and made the next 360 a quality peice of hardware and also made LIVE free to bring it in line with the competition they will be the console of choice for almost everyone.

As for what Substance said. A lot of people do care. My friends are one of them. They will get the console that is selling the most as will their friends. This is because of multiplayer. Selling does matter. However how many sell in Aus... well yeah I don't think it does matter much here lol.

Australian RRP $699.95 AUD

USA RRP $399.99 US Dollar


Now the Australian Dollar is worth 95cents to the US dollar.

But the Price difference is ****ing BS!

Then there is the Stupid price on games and Other hardwear for it.

No matter how strong our dollar gets the price still stays the same and we get raped

Errr dude... I'm a 360 fanboy. (I own a 360 and Wii and have no intention of buying a PS3) I wasn't slating it. But the moment I praise it in a thread about how well the PS3 is doing I normally get called a 360 fanboy and my views are made irrelevant because of that.

they are all software implimentations, If you think they are not, You need to go look up the term software.

How is the lack of a head set or the lack of a HD lead, Proving the hardware in place isnt fantastic? It is, Blu-ray and Cell are feats of engineering. And if you disagree, Then I stand by my last response to you.

I love how I can put sony down for software, and say MS is great for software, But in saying so, You cry and say I'm bumming sony and hating MS?

All because I said Sony's strong point is hardware. Notice I didnt actually say PS3? Wow

Australia says it's fantastic, Japan says it's fantastic, the whole of Europe says it's fantastic, countless of other countries it's top in say it's fantastic and thats even with the faults you've listed and the fact that it was over a year late to the market place, and no real triple 'a' titles even released yet lol, people really do underestimated the power of the 'Playstation' brand, I'm not saying the PS3 is best but that brand name sells PS3's.

I said before the PS3 and I really hope it's the case for the PS4, Sony need to outsource the development of the software and dev boxes to the West and have us develop the system tools and features for designers, it will be implemented faster, better and have much more features.

Very true - however it will never happen. Sony will always lead the dev from Japan unfortunately I cant see it happening any other way however good a marketing / business strategy it is

Only one of those issues is hardware, the sixaxis, and that's been address with the Dualshock3. The 'missing' headset and hd lead can be solved for a tenner, personally i prefer to buy my own 3rd party peripherals so i can choose them according to the quality needs i have. The last problem is a software issue, it will be addressed at some point this year and in no way can be labelled as a hardware issue.

Aside from the rather poor sixaxis the actual console itself is fantastically built. Its failure rate is approximately on par with that of the Wii and considering that the wii is much less high tech and thus more reliable i think its rather impressive how well the PS3 has been designed. It has software issues that put it behind the 360 when it comes to online play, but they're just that, software issues and will be addressed eventually.

Sony have made a mistake by falling behind in the implementation of their online system, to pick them up for that failure is more than fair. However, the console itself is not below par.

How the hell is the Live infrastructure hardware do you think MS laid all the cables for the internet themselves just to run LIVE over or are you being even more thick and thinking it's hardware because it takes a computer to run it???
