Hopefully this Xperia will be better built...i was shocked at how flimsy the first one was...my bro had one and he absolutely hated it...so much so that he traded it for a nokia E71 which he didnt like either:p.

I wasnt that impressed with the build quality especially the keyboard.

Seen it sim free for £600:eek:...**** me they are taking the proverbial there...wouldnt spend that much on it tbqh.

Sony Ericsson Rachael Xperia/X3/X10

Another week, another phone thread... but we love talking about 'em, right? :D

Up for discussion now is a phone that wasn't even personally on my radar... if it had been I would have been much more cautious about enthusing about the Droid as my definite next phone. It's the Sony Ericsson Rachael Xperia/X3/X10 Some collected info...

Engadget list of X3 articles: http://www.engadget.com/tag/Rachael/

So, no droning on this time, lets get to the specs... which are relatively patchy and incomplete despite an apparent November 3rd launch.

--------------------------------------------

Confirmed:

  • 4" capacitive touchscreen
  • 480 x 854 resolution
  • 1ghz Snapdragon CPU
  • 8MP camera with Autofocus
  • GPS
  • Android 2.0 w. customised SE UI
  • Mini/USB
  • 3.5mm jack

Unconfirmed:

  • 32GB internal storage
  • HD video recording (would make sense given the Snapdragon)

--------------------------------------------

Looks are also similarly sexy...

The question is... will this phone arrive no time given SE's history of being awful in that department... and will the battery be good enought to power such a monster screen and CPU? Either way I am excited... the next gen of Android phones are looking like a quantum leap over the first-gen specs. It is going to be an awesome, awesome year in the mobile world.

If anyone has more info on this phone pelase post it and i'll update the OP as I go along. :)

Only things that are a bit crap about the xperia is the reception and the camera.

I stripped mine to bare WM (no panels) and set it up with a nice today screen and some custom apps and it would suck to live without it... the touchscreen works a treat, nice high res display, with a couple of minor tweaks the OS runs very fast and responsive and has only crashed once in almost a year of having it. Love the hardware qwerty keyboard as well... coupled with opera mobile and skyfire it makes for a decent mobile internet experience.

Whilst I did enjoy mine, the build quality was shocking. Mine developed a hairline crack in the casing, as did countless others across the world.

Got it repaired, and developed the same thing in the same place within a month. Had it repaired again, sold it, and bought a 5800 to tide me over til getting my Touch Pro2, which has a MUCH better build quality.

I remember a couple of early reviewers complained of a hairline crack starting above the stylus slot after 2 weeks... I assumed they dropped them or something...

Can't fault the build quality on mine - its been through hell and back daily for a year and only way you'd tell is the battery cover is scuffed - the rest is still in pristine condition.

This feature is impressive
Seen that face before?
The Xperia™ X10 recognises up to five faces in a photo and automatically stores
them under your friends in your phone.

Frankly, everything about it seems just incredible. Nothing on the market or due out is as appealing as this. However, I'm not gonna wait 4 months or more so will probably go with the Droid/Milestone as I've been out of contract a couple of months already
