Sony STR-DN1040 First impression

£500? Thought it was £400? It was £400 at Christmas.

I'm loving mine, it's been faultless, the bass in particular is quite surprising, it seems to have lots of juice so when it needs that thump, it has it in spades.

don't think the 1050 was out Christmas which is 500 the 1040 is 300 pounds

How you guys finding this amp ?

It's 'only' £299' now from Richersounds, tempted for the 1050 but that's £500 !! Worth the £200 uplift ??

The 1050 has NFC Bluetooth and 4k up-scaling so I guess it is more future proof but as its new you are paying he premium, 6 months or so it will be at the same price as the 1040.

Ive had the 820 for a good while now and while the 1040 wasn't a big enough upgrade for me the 1050 at the right price would be but £500 isn't the right price.

You don't want to pay £200 more for bluetooth and upscaling (do you even have a 4k tv?).

Get the 1040, £300 is a bargain really.

Damn that's tempting.

My STR-DB790 just had it's tenth birthday. Sounds as good as it ever did just missing a few modern touches like HDMI...

Lol was all ready to buy but the guys on avforumss now saying get the yahama rx-v1073 at £500 but is a lot better ( worth £1000 amp or something ? )

Not ideal but if it's really that much better ..... ???!?

I got the 1040 a month ago after fancying a change from my onkyo 705. I've got to say I've been very impressed with the sony and I am mega fussy. I got it for 210 delivered from richer sounds. It was an open box but was in prefect conditij with all items still sealed and same warrenth

All it's missing is a blue strip on the front that lights up for Multi channel decoding! ;)

I'll be a little sad to disconnect the STR-DB790. It never missed a beat and still sounds excellent.

Hi Guys....old thread I know but I thought I would ask.....I got my 1040 a couple of months ago and love it!!

I'm currently saving to add centre and surround speakers and have a questions on how the surround processing works...

Would I be able to keep the AMP on a certain setting and it would automatically change between real 5.1 and fake Dolby Pro logic II processing depending on the signal....or do I have to change the setting depending on source?

Also all my music and videos comes from the same source (Chromecast) so I'm guessing I would have to change settings depending on if I was listening to music or films?

I guess I'm trying to work out how long it will take me to teach the wife how to use\make the most the extra speakers.....

Set it to Pro Logic II. When it gets a flag over the digital input to indicate DD/DTS etc then it'll switch to that mode automatically.
