Sony unlocks 70mb of additional Ram for devs

Well, as has been said already, nearly a third extra memory can go quite some ways. You would be very surprised at the results. The PSP went through a similar thing; it launched with a processing speed of 222mhz and eventually went up to 333mhz. Many people such as yourself viewed it with a lot of skepticism - until the more modern PSP games finally came out.

Who knows what the improvements will be for the PS3 platform. But a near 33% increase in system memory can't be unnoticed.

If you want to stay in troll-mode that's fine but like the hundreds before you, you'll get a kick in the nuts pretty sharpish.

Damnit, it's been a while since I've come across a troll on here - thought it was too good to be true :p

Apparently this troll still thinks it's 2007... "PS3 has nothing to offer".

LMAO :D

what? nothing other than you lot creaming your panties over a whole 70mb:rolleyes:

If it was 70MB of 2GB, then sure, it'd be non-news. But surely even you can see the benefit of freeing up 70MB out of a total of 256MB?

But hey, don't let logic get in the way of your argument.

The report isnt that accurate...

The ps3's OS footprint has been steadily dropping for a couple of years, i remember a tech discussion from mike acton discussing a firmware upgrade that allowed a extra 20mb while developing R+CFtod.

its in here somewhere

Yeah it may have been steadily dropping over the past couple of years but 70MB out of 256 is a big drop

not really been here years, just dont see why this is a big deal, as far as im concerned the PS3 has nothing to offer gamers that already have a blu ray player, and yes I did have a PS3 it gathered dust for 6 months before I sold it

you spent £300 on something you never used, and you're carrying that grudge over onto a messageboard forum

whats wrong with you

If you have an xbox already I can see why you wouldn't need a PS3 to be fair.

Despite owning a 360... and 3 PS3's .__. I'm such a hypocrite.

Back on topic, I'm suprised they didn't plow the freed RAM back into adding features to the OS, but instead freed it for games. They could have used it for voice chat? Although this is good too, I'm sure the PS3 exclusives will eat it up. Versus XIII anyone? :D

Yeah but who can say the games are poor atm? However, the PS3's online play is poor for playing with friends, it's the only thing that annoys me about the console :(

However, don't get me wrong, it's obviously a great benefit for the games too :p

I own a PS3 and 360 and I think it's totally worth having both. It's quite funny, guys from back in 2005 will remember me absolutely trolling the hell out of the PS3 but it's matured as a platform and is distinct enough from the 360 to be considered a sound investment even for the green team now.

zzzzzz a whole 70mb wow, it will take devs ages to optimise this, anyway the ps3 has nothing worth buying until turismo eventually comes out

It has quite a few decent games and 70mb is huge, for a console. Think of it like an upgrade from 1Gb of usuable RAM in your PC to just over 1.5Gb, quite a help for modern games.

It's a 54.7% increase in usable RAM.
