**** Sony Xperia Z3 ****

Is it possible to lock the notification bar when the phone is pressed to the ear? Whenever I make a call, my ear making contact with the phone pulls the navigation bar down which can be a nuisance if I have to press the keypad.

Bought a Z3 off AVF. Just used Xperia transfer to copy everything from my old Z, now to get a nano SIM, or maybe get the phone shop across the road to cut the micro SIM. I've got a Case Mate Tough Case coming to the Amazon Locker today too so should be set for this evenings Christmas party :) Seems like a much better built phone that my old Z, which is falling apart.

How well does xperia transfer work? Will it copy apps and data over or just settings and things?

Might need it soon!

Ah I've got all that on the SD card so xperia transfer wouldn't be of any benefit for my needs. Guess old fashioned reinstall is what I'd have to do.

I should probably do the same thing but only have an 8gb card at the moment! Any advice on the best way of backing up the Z3? I'm just using the Sony software at the moment.

SD card really is the best non root way but if 8GB is your best card then manual I guess.

I'll have to buy a bigger card ASAP. Just got the sim card cut in some dodgy mobile shop outside Sudbury Hill tube station, but it seems to be working ok.

Let us know how the case mate tough feels. Still not sure about the left side being exposed but I understand it's needed for access to the magnetic dock and USB port.

Get yourself the magnetic USB adapters if you haven't already. I have 3 now, for car, bedside and living room. Much easier than trying to insert a USB cable in the dark.

For anyone interested, I'm using the Brodit adjustable holder in the car which I've had since the Samsung S2 days. Used with a Note, Note 2 and Note 3, with and without cases.

With the Z3 there is enough clearance on the left for the Magnector X connector.

My Z3 has recently started doing something funky. The screen will show weird lines moments after the display is turned on like as if it's fogging up but it's not fog as it's bone dry.

I suspect at one point water may have have entered but I am 110% certain that at any time it has come into contact with water the flaps were shut properly as it's something I always check so I can only assume there's a leak somewhere and thus should be seen to by Sony.

I've read Sony's support is generally very good and the process will take up to a week or so.

I need to now buy a cheap Android phone to activate and use while this gets sorted out. Wish I didn't sell the Note 3 now haha.

Sony have had my z3 that had a cracked screen for repair nearly four weeks. they have had my money for over three weeks and i still have not had the phone fixed or returned. i have contacted sony support several times and sony via facebook 3 times. on Friday I contacted the repair center SBE directly on friday lunch time (took 25mins for them to answer the call) and they said that something had obviously gone wrong as it shouldn't take that long and they would investigate and ring me back on Friday.

Well I've only had it for 3 days but the case is excellent. It is exposed at the side, but it's designed well enough that I think if you dropped it, the exposed side wouldn't get damaged. There's enough of a buffer around the exposed side to protect it. It doesn't add much bulk to the phone either, compared to the protection it offers.

A magnetic charging cable is next on the list, along with a dock and a car cradle; any recommendations?

As for the Z3, it's brilliant. The premium feel of the phone, the battery life, the screen etc. Such a good phone. I used the Navigon app today to get to work and it works quite well, I almost prefer it to google maps.

Moto G 2nd Gen with the Android 5 update incoming. This will be my phone until Sony send my repaired/replaced Z3 back at which point it will get cupboard storage :p

I have no idea but I am a bit miffed having seen that a £144 phone has it yet our flagships do not!

Sony tweeted to me beginning 2015 so January onwards. I suppose it's not long left now.

Anyone else had an update this morning?

Downloading now - but from what I've been reading it's nothing dramatic.

Seems to have made notification sounds louder :)

It also apparently fixes the "camera is in use" message if you have Google Now active on all pages, so I've seen elsewhere...
