Hi guys sorry for making these I know they are done all the time, today I sold my S14a, (around 260bhp) because it needed a lot of work to get it up to a good standard and would NOT have passed an MOT without hundreds (if not thousands) of pounds worth of work.

I was looking at cars to replace it and after researching S2000's for a while decided they were worth looking into so I went and viewed a 56 plate example with 44,000 miles, really excellent condition in and out, very very nice looking car. I drove it for around 35/40 minutes alone and everything seemed tight but I was left a little underwhelmed by the pickup, (it was driven properly revved right up near the redline) I was expecting something "more" under full throttle which never really seemed to appear, I have also viewed a 05 model as well and felt the same thing, (whilst it wasnt in as good condition the pickup felt the same).

Basically I want to know is there anything else out there for around the 7-8k mark that has the same sort of qualities but is a bit faster?


TL:DR I drove two s2000s they were not fast enough, is there anything similar but faster for around 8k.

Not a direct swap from an S2000, but a 350z would be my alternative providing convertible isn't a must have. Otherwise something like a Z4 3.0, but that is almost identical power-wise to an S2000 and has arguably less wow factor.
 
I have to admit that now I'm used to VTEC I do find that my S2000 could use a little extra go now and again. Supercharging is meant to work well, but is obviously irrelevant in your case! I suppose the handling is the main appeal of the S2000 rather than straight line speed.

For 8k I'd probably look at a 350z if something with more grunt is required. An earlier boxster or Z4 3.0 might also fit the bill. It's a shame you didn't like the Honda as they're fantasic value right now.
 
350z isnt quite what Im looking for, been in one and looked around a couple, (I know that hardly makes me an expert on them though!) VXR220 isnt something I had considered by 200bhp and under a tonne sounds interesting

Z4 is probably out of my range? price wise and wont really be much if any quicker?
 
A Supra and 350z aren't really comparable to an S2000, both heavier more GT focused cars, same goes for the Z4 although it is convertible.

Turbo MX5 is a good shout though.

You wont get a 220 VXR for 8k.
