Hi guys,

My cousin has managed to break his computer so I've got it all formatted and it's working well bar one thing, the sound card. The mother board is an "intel d915gag". I've installed all the drivers for it but the sound card won't work. The problem is, I can't select the realtek hd audio device, all that is there is "Modem #0 Line Playback" (This is in the sound and audio device section).

There is no way to select the realtek one even though it's in device manager.

I've tried all the latest drivers, sound and chipset. Seems like a lot of people have the issue but nobody knows of a fix.

I'm stumped, any help is apreciated.

Cheers

Seems probable that you need the Intel HD Audio stuff first and the Microsoft HD Bus Audio drivers... Oh how I bloody hate them.

If I was you, Id forget about the onboard rubbish, disable it in the BIOS and go out and buy a cheap Soundcard instead.
Even creatives can be had for under £20 and the yare much better than the on board option you have.

The Modem line is simply that... Its not the SoundCard at all but the old 56K Dialup modem, so either take the modem out or disable it if its onboard.

As a side-note, what motherboard is it? We can tell you exactly what you need if you absolutely must use onboard if we knew the motherboard in question.

Cheers for the reply mate.

The motherboard is an Intel d915gag. I think I will just buy him a cheap sound card, It seems it just doesn't want to work. I think even a cheapo £5 sound card will do him, he hardly even uses it.

Cheers

well, I just went to intel and I found drivers for the d915gag pretty quickly.

I also found options to automatically let software download and install correct drivers for you!!!

Are you sure you have tried those options?

But yes, a soundcard thats going to provide you with the basics will cost you under a fiver and if thats all you want... Then why not?
