sound issues

just changed motherboard from an asus commando to the gigabyte x38, cleaned the drivers and reinstalled them.

now the speakers are buzzing and hissing.

how can i stop this? tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail

Have you changed motherboards but not re-installed windows? If so, I would say you are lucky to have got as far as you have.

speakers are connected via 3x3.5mm jacks, and no i have not reinstalled windows. should i have or is an intel to intel mobo change ok?

I would recommend re-installing windows only problems will arise if you dont

, been there done that got the T-Shirt.

Have you tried restarting because my Creative X-Fi started to hiss at me but sorted itself after a restart.

Try connecting another device like an MP3 player to the speakers just to make sure its deffernalty a problem with the PC.

The only thing I could really thing of is uninstall the drivers and reinstall, when changing mobo it is better to reinstall.

Sometimes noises can be caused by cross talk from different cables, have you run any power cables near your sound card or anything?

Surely formatting takes under a minute in vista ? if you do it though booting the DVD.
just delete the drive then it formats itself

I think he means the hassle of reinstalling the apps and getting everything how you like it.

under the OEM licencing agreement MS may not authorise the validation of the reinstall.

However saying that I couldnt find one of my retail licences at weekend and ended up using the oem licence that I had on the pc, and despite having a processor, motherboard and graphics card change, it was validated over the net.

As for your sound problem, how bad is the actual hiss. Could it be that the volume is set too high. Having gone from Asus to MSI, I find for some strange reason that I no longer need to have the volume level as high as I did previously.

If that isnt the problem, then I'd uninstall the audio drivers, presumably this will be Realtek as its a gigabyte board, restart machine and then let Windows update install the drivers themselves, and see if that solves the problem, as opposed to installing from the Gigatebyte CD, or alternatively go and download the latest audio driver and install it yourself.

If the fault is still there, then you are going to have to bite the bullet and go for a total windows reinstall.
