Hey.

Was wondering if this is anything to worry about. Basically the PC is running quiet and performs fine, but sometimes I get a random 'Click' sound coming round from CD drive / front fan / HDD area. It's quite random.

What could be causing this ?

Could be anything from the HDD heads parking up, case panel expansion/contraction(especially if its Aluminum) to a fan blade catching the fan frame due to a wobbly bearing.

could think of more if i tried.

It's loud enough for me to hear from my seat, it's not very quiet, as in, like a fan noise would make after hitting a wire. The sound is not metallic, also, so I doubt it;s the case.

very weird

It sounds very similar to that, except that it's not repetetive. It's a single click and then it's silent again.

Backup NOW. It could be the start of the hd going and if it sounds like that don't risk it.

Also, ive got a OEM copy of Win 7. If I was to replace my HDD, how would I go about installing my Windows ?

I am not 100% sure but I think the OEM copy is tied to the motherboard not the HD (Could be wrong on that tho)

fit the new HDD, make sure the Bios boot order is the optical drive first.

stick it in the drive and it will say press any key to boot from the dvd drive.

follow the instructions.

just re register the software after its all done, OEM is tied to the motherboard so you can use it again.

do the motherboard, GPU and sound drivers.

Oh I see.

Well... I might have a problem, then. lol

Ive ordered a new mobo thats due to arrive on Monday, will the windows still install fine ?

In short, yes you can reuse you Win7 licence, regardless of it being OEM or Retail.

You may be required to place a call to MS to activate, but it wont be an issue provided you have the original licence sticker or box.

Just so you know when you Phone MS they maybe complete %&*% are refuse to activate but as long as you have details they are normally pretty good. Say your old motherboard blew/broke (dont say its an upgrade). May take a little begging lol.

What if I lost the CD and the Box ? :/

Oh god I dont like where this is going..

If you lost the disk then how would you re install?

what you can do is download a ISO image, burn to disk and still use the key, if you still have the key? which is on the box. lol this doesnt sound good.

Nevermind:D

Found the box.

So I guess it'll be fine

Hopefully. Remember what I said don't tell them the MB is an upgrade say you blew/broke it. Not guaranteed to work but last 3 motherboards I have had have been the same OEM licence. Only one of them genuinely broke after I sorta threw it out the window by mistake. (Dont ask)

Good Luck

Gah so I HAVE to call them ? Is there another way? :D
Got all the details etc, just not keen waiting days for them to answer my call.

What do I tell them ? I mean, logically, if this key is bound to this motherboard, what can they do for the new one ? give me a replacement key ?

Explain to them that your motherboard blew and you had to buy a new one. They should update the system to let you activate with the new motherboard.
