Sound ?

Ok. Thanks for the help mate.

Gah, ive spent so much money on this PC lately. New case, new CPU cooler, now new mobo due to this one having faulty RAM slots, and now it looks as if I need a new HDD too...

:(

How about unplugging one item at a time and see if it stops the noise?

Regards to W7 activation, as said, ring them up, say you hat to replace the broken motherboard and they should give you a new key.

There are 'other' ways to activate, which I don't see being a problem as you have actually paid for it :P

I think it's definitely the HDD, ive saw a couple of videos and this sounds very similar.

Also, ive found a HDD from a HTPC I had 1-2 years ago. I think it has some files inside it, which i'd like to get rid of.

When my mobo comes, do I just put it in, format it, then proceed with the new w7 install ?

one of the first things the win7 installer allows you to do is choose were to install the operating system this includes the option of formating the drive and removing the partitions if there are any.

Gah so I HAVE to call them ? Is there another way? :D
Got all the details etc, just not keen waiting days for them to answer my call.

What do I tell them ? I mean, logically, if this key is bound to this motherboard, what can they do for the new one ? give me a replacement key ?

It's an automated system where you have to type in a load of numbers and you get a code back to activate Windows.

Done it myself several times and never had to speak to anyone.

Thanks Surveyor. Hopefully I wont have to wait ages then to get through to someone.

About the clicks, could it be CD drive and not the HDD

?

Also, from all videos ive seen that feature the clicking, the clicking is continuous, whereas it clicks once, or once and then 2nd time, then its perfectly quiet for some time.

Best way to find out is do what andy_mk3 said unplug everything one at a time lot of pc work is process of elimination.

But If it is the hard drive and even if not doing that clicking regularly it is a sign that its dying you don't want risk waiting and losing all yer stuff.

Got the new mobo, my RAM slots are working fine again.

Whats better, my hard drive clicking seemed to have stopped.
Also, I did not have to call Microsoft at all ! Got the new mobo in and just booted into the windows fine :D
