SoundBlaster X-Fi 2.18.0004 out now

Not tried these yet but I've almost given up hope of using my X-Fi with 4GB or more. Tried every driver release going but never got more than a click or a pop out of the thing when all the RAM is enabled.

Then that's down to your Mobo, needs a Bios to sort.

I never had the 4GB issue even before driver fixes and Asus made a new Bios for the 680I anyhow claiming better X-FI support.

Probably down to Latency.

Dunno - was in contact with a guy on another forum who's got the same motherboard and BIOS version as me. He's got an extremegamer working. Went through every conceiveable setting in BIOS that might affect it and came up with nothing.

I'm giving it a month or two, then I'll see if the soundcard from my spare rig and onboard work. If they play ball, I'm dumping the X-Fi and getting a Xonar.

Would a vista 64bit user be able to do me a little test... i need you to install ventrilo, chat with someone, go in a game like team fortress 2 or counter strike source and carry on talking for a while

test it 2 - 3 times and get back to me :p its a lot to ask but its the only reason im still using XP because every time i go vista i get a problem in ventrilo where it sounds like im underwater/crackling like crazy, and considering ventrilo is one of my most used programs i really need to know its sorted

Being a X-Fi (asus is a re branded X-Fi?) won't it have the same problems?

No it isn't. The Auzentech Prelude is based on an X-Fi. The Xonar is based on a C-media chip.

On another note, I'm not convinced that a different X-Fi wouldn't sort me out. I've heard of positive results from people with 4GB problems that they switched to a different X-Fi and it was sorted. I have no idea why.

my hunch is that the problem is hardware related and has been all along, which is why some ppl are afflicted and others aren't.

when i see ppl with similar hardware to myself (motherboard) exhibit the problem it makes sense to be honest.
