Source Code Ownership - Advice Needed

It is in your best to write a contract for every project. That way the customer knows exactly what they were getting, and should they decide otherwise (for whatever reason) later on you have a legal document to refer to.

I've found this artice very useful http://24ways.org/2008/contract-killer
That page is a bit of a joke to be honest. The contract he holds up as an example is just so poor as to almost be pointless. The IP provisions, in particular, are just useless... If you want a standard agreement to use with your clients then get an actual lawyer to draft it - that way you get a useful document and not just a false sense of security.

About 50% of the sites total is IMO a fair price for source code and original images.

However, you still face the possibility of them arking about in the source code.

I've sold my source code 3 or 4 times, and one thing I have learnt:
I now sign a contract on transfer, saying I pass on the rights to any code contained to said company. That at the point of transfer, I (or my team) are no longer held liable for any of said code and support for said code will cease.
Any work on the site/code/images from said point would be classed as a new business agreement between the two parties as we cant be held respoionsible for changes have made by outside influences.

I'd also make them move the site from your umbrella account at TSO.. or include a free transfer elsewhere "in your price".

Now considoring the site cost circa £2400 in total, what do think would be a reasonable price. My mate who works at another web company reckons around 40-50 of the full price. Does this sound normal?

Thanks

I would say 40-50% of the full price is fair. Just ensure that you write a contract which ends all support/ties with you, they'll expect you to work for nothing.

Edit - I also would get them moved away from your clustered account - maybe offer this included within the price.

Get full payment from them, then hand over everything and dust your hands of them completely. They sound like a PITA and I'd not want to work with them anymore.
