lol just google baroness mone PPE

I guess the challenge is finding a government that isn't corrupt. The difference I guess, is in SA the corruption has and does affect every day life in a very significant way. As you know, of course.

I'm sure its always been there in the UK but not so brazen. Honestly the current lot are a stain on the country but it'll soon pass.

It's impossible because it's human nature. However, the trend suggests that the longer 1 government stays in power, the higher the chance corruption creeps in. It happens in all cultures, across continents, political divides, and time.

Indeed.
in SA, corruption steals a large percentage of the available funds. In the UK the values may be similar (no idea, speculation here) but the overall pot is so much bigger that the negative effect is not as widespread.

Watched this recently, he's originally from SA so does comment on it occasionally.

The UK has a long way to go before it's this bad, there's a large potion of people who bash the UK for political reasons on both sides. I wouldn't take them to seriously.

With regards to immigration, we have examples in Europe that are 10-20 years ahead of us, mostly because they have no choice. So they've kind of an indicator of what we can expect if things don't change in the UK. Sweden for example failed to integrate the vast majority of immigrants and it's resulted in a massive increase in gang violence, sexual assaults and crime in general.

Lets see what happens when Labour get in, return to boom or bust and streamlined illegal immigration probably.

Are you guys literally telling the would-be SA immigrant that they're the problem the country is facing? Very classy.

That's one thing SA has against it. The ANC have been in charge since 1994 - and with a majority. So they have been able to do pretty much what they want. We have elections next year and it's expected that the ANC will fall below 50% for the first time. Maybe they will - but they will still hold the biggest share of the votes and still be in charge (bit via a coalition) and so nothing will improve for at least another generation in SA. It will get worse.

It's expected that labour will get in, next election in the UK - I'll admit I know nothing about UK politics, so I would have to read up to have a more informed opinion on that.

No, I think the issue is illegal immigrants, if I am reading the comments correctly - most people seem supportive of legal immigration.

Lol

I visited the USA in 2019. Height of trumpism, and I was at a sailing club in Long Beach, so pretty much Trump's demographic too (though nowhere near as bad as powerboaters :D ). I was chatting with the locals quite a lot, mentioning things like wanting to perhaps relocate to the USA, but that they didn't seem too fond of immigrants...
Their response - and I'm sure it was tongue in cheek, but you never know: "Ahhh, but you're the RIGHT KIND of immigrant" :D

Funny enough, myself and the wife were in the USA in 2019 too. We were in NYC, Las Vegas and SF. US is not a place I would move to.

Very few I would hope, and they would be wrong to do so.

Being worried about a violent and intolerant religion arriving by the boat load is a legitimate concern though.

Agreed, the people arriving by boat need to be stopped.

I'm kinda ambivalent on this.
My understanding is that many if not most are legitimate refugees, who would be granted asylum when their cases are heard (if they're ever heard). The problem they have is that you can only apply for asylum from inside the country. And there is no legal way for them to get into the country. So a bit of a catch-22 for them there.

It'd be far effective to process them at British consulates over the world, it would save the need for them to travel thousands of miles and keep them out of the UK until their status is verified.

It's almost like the Tories want to keep them out regardless of need/status...
