Space games worth getting?

I've got X-Wing Alliance and also XWing Vs TIE fighter...might play though XWA again!

Can you play X3 without an analogue stick?

EVE Online - love it, but currently already got a sub for WoW and don't want another atm :(

I want to play X3 but it runs like a complete dog on my machine, even on the lowest settings, all the codec problems don't help, u would've thought they would've learnt their lesson with X2, it took me ages to sort that out.

Gonna have to find my Freespace 2 and give it another go, didn't enjoy it as much as no.1 but still a great game :)

Not mentioned here yet but try Star Trek Bridge Commander which is a 2002 release but still looks reasonable today and there has been a recent mod which gives it a lot more gfx/replayability. Would run like an absolute rocket on modern PC's.
Made by the same company behind the Xwing games (totally games/Lawrence Holland).

Wing Commander 5 (AKA Prophecy) is another worthy game and again very cheap now.

This thread has made me...

A) Want to play EVE online again - already done 2 trials but don't want to have two sub fee's running :(

B) Want to buy X3, even though I don't have the time to put into it :p

C) Wish I'd not posted this as I'm now going to fork out for new games ;)

EVE is so worth it if you can sink some time into it, that you can start a skill training and leave it (ie you don't have to be online to improve your char) is good
I unsubed for 2 months and just left some uber skills training, can't do that in WOW I'll bet!

Yeah, thats what I enjoyed about it - I enjoyed the slow pace too...the fact that I could go mining, sit back and watch the pretty images on screen while listening to music/working on another PC...

Got into the OcUK guild for my 14 days too, which made it more enjoyable.

TBH the WoW community is enough to make me want to quit and go back to eve !

does anyone have a decent mirror to download Freespace 2 from by any chance? :) because I can't use torrents over the university network, also I am getting 6kb/s download and it will take over 20 hours to download :(

Slightly off topic but Space Empires is a great game - a few of us at my uni house are playing it currently and its quite gd fun - we've gone through 47 odd turns and we're not even scraping the top of the tech 'ice berg' ... the combinations for ships is just insane :o
gd stuff :D

*oh and conveniently SE IV is available through steam right now

that's an awesome game :) and its available over steam, I'm really tempted to get it.

used to love upgrading the ships and having to retrofit or retire obsolete classes, who were left patrolling some dead end backwaters, although several times they'veproved quite valuable detecting ene,y forces trying to come in my weaker flanks :p

thank god for HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE minefields around the warp points :p just like DS9

I found it an easy game to learn, but very hard to master :)

Anyone know how easy it would be to resurrect a 10-12 month old trial account, or if its even possible? Wonder if they delete trial accounts...
