Space Shuttle Atlantis set to launch

The fuel flow is the same as draining an average size swimming pool in 25 seconds. :D

And what? Some dude has been up on ISS for six months

Fuel flow rate equivalent to emptying a home swimming pool in 25 seconds.

That'd smart at your typical forecourt prices.

Next bit is good.

It's great to see all the hardwork and preparation pay off when everything goes to plan on a launch.

It always amazes me how everything is done and I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching launches and spacewalks.

Annoying that none of the main UK news channels (On Virgin Media atleast) showed the launch. Oh well, NASA TV for the win, even if it's got a delay.

Guy on Fox News said there were 27 High Definition cameras recording every angle from the launch pad area.

That would be great to see :)

is that on the TV thing too?

i've never watched anything like this before - it's amazing what we're able to do these days

If you mean NASA TV on the web then yes. Missions are covered 24/7

Docking to ISS will be on Sunday at 21:19 BST
I'd highly recommend people watch this, and the hour or so before. Look out for the RPM maneuver. I'll say nothing more than that - it has to be seen to be believed.

And yes, shuttle mission are covered almost 24/7 (they run highlights packages during the 'graveyard shift' when everyone onboard is in bed). Running ISS coverage 24/7/365 would get a bit tiresome. :)

Did anyone see the yellow kind of flares that you could see just before Atlantis separated from the tank? What was that? was it the RCS?

that was MECO ( Main Engine cut off ) Engines flaring out.

Then when tank detached, RCS :)
