Because it was difficult.
Because it didn't hold your hand - you had to figure it out.
Because you could BE A PIRATE WOOOOO!

I found Eve anything but intense, I missed manual combat unless they've finally put in proper flight controls. I did play it for a couple of years mind :)

I had an Amiga and an Atari 1040FM, don't forget the FM. No idea what it meant or even the model of the Amiga (pfft like I care) but I want acknowledgement of that FM

FM

Don't forget - it's an FM.

Also I'll take both games thanks, no need for competition! :D

FM = you could plug it into a TV rather than needing a dedicated monitor iirc.
I had an FM too, then an E. So there :p

The FM in the Atari model name meant that it had a built in Floppy Drive & Modulator for TV output. The Amigas had a separate modulator box.

The original Atari STs never had modulators built in.

Atari 520ST was replaced by the Atari 520STFM.

I'll have to say X3 : Terran Conflict (or any of the X-series really).

I played all of the X-series, up to TC which I only played for a few hours (forced myself to stop before it got too serious!).

Amazing games... take a while to get into but the depth is unparalleled. I won't let myself play them any more though - time just disappears into nothing! (just like it did with Frontier when I was a kid).

High end wormhole and medium size lowsec fleet based combat can be very intense in eve but it doesn't have anything that can compare to the seat of your pants experience of a wing commander type game.

Ooh I might have to upgrade my pledge from Bounty Hunter to Rear Admiral. I might ask for b/day money next week.
