Spaceforce - Rogue Universe [Experience the most beautiful, open ended space sim]

Is x3 much better then x2? I gave up on X2 finding it very poor. Must take a look at x3 and this new game. Jowood don’t bother me as I like a lot of there games.

There are lots of improvements in x3 over 2x - particularly relating to factories. For example, you can build huge factory complexes allowing you to make a large variety of goods without needing dozens of transport ships. Of course, the graphics are much improved as well.

That said, if you found x2 boring I highly doubt you would find x3 to be a thrill.

i found the trading boring in x2 and mainly used it just to generate cash for ship upgrades, is x3 more story driven? if so i might give it another go

this thread reminded me of IWAR and IWAR2 (independence war) another space sim/adventure type game although ive never seen a single review about them they arent bad games.

Well, it's about as story driven as x2 - perhaps a little more so. But as with x2 the real 'meat' of the game is the building up of an empire, external to the story.

The basic in-ship trading is somewhat less important in x3 I think. I certainly never did any trading - I got my initial income from combat (capturing ships and selling them at shipyards), then moved on to building factory complexes. I did a lot of in ship trading in x2 and found it very dull also.

X3 - I'm sorry but thats just a sleep simulator for me - very slow pace, very steep learning curve and generally just plain boring.

For me there are only two Space sim's I ever play...

Freelancer - if you want fast ships, excellent graphics with lots of third party addons and a great storyline then this is it. And best of all you can pick it up cheap!

Descent - Freespace 2 - probably THE best Space game - looking a little old now but again lots of addons. The graphics are still great after all this time however it's more story driven than exploration. Theres just so many really great points with this game.

And the new Elite game by David Braben is out later this year - hopefully that will be good.

Best thing about Freespace 2 for me is the control system and combat, really intuitive. But as mentioned fantastic story as well.

x2 was much better than x3 imo.

this looks good x3 is very old now, so it would be nice to see what more this game gives. I shall probably give it a try.

x2 better than x3  How so?

I can see people finding x2/x3 boring as it's quite a specialist game and certainly not for everyone. But I don't see how x3 went backwards at all. It kept pretty much everything from x2 and added plenty of interesting new features - not to mention vastly improved graphics that tax even my 8800GTX.

Of course it was buggy as hell when it was first released (pretty much unfinished...), but once properly patched I don't see that it was inferior to x2 in any way.

i dont think it added much, yes graphics but that on it's own isn't enough. For the level of learning required, there wasn't that much new. Certainly enjoyable, but x2 was more fun as it was simpler. x3 was overly hard if you didn't follow the story, which is stupid.

Just a heads up, the Jersey based mail order retailer shows the release date has slipped back to 22 June. :(

Oh well, that means it will be going away along with Colin McRae Dirt for my birthday in mid-July. :)

As i said on spaceforce forums, the two major mail order places as with others for preorders just 9 times out of 10 guess or copy others pre-order dates. They are not acurate. Only worry yourself if spaceforce publisher or dev says a date and last word from spaceforce devs was may or very start of june. I mean from gold status to shelves status takes about 2 weeks. So if the game is to ship in time it would have to be gold any day now. If so we should hear something soon.

saw one movie - looks very nice :)

but as always i only really have ONE question of any of these space exploration type games......

CAN YOU LAND ON THE ********** PLANET?

or Is David Braben such a programmer genius that only he knows how to code it?

in this day and age of HDR, AAAAAAA +++ 40 AF 30 AA blah blah blah blah

i dont care about the graphics i justs wanna know if you can land on the planet.... and maybe do planet missions fps style? Anyone know any games which do this good?

I don't understand. Is Spaceforce - Rogue Universe out? If not, how can you compare Spaceforce - Rogue Universe to X3 Reunion?

I played X3. The first 2 hours was the most boring gaming experience I have ever had. But I thought i'd give it a shot anyway. After a day, I thought it was one of the best games i've ever played! I might even go pirate mode in X3 after my exams :)
